Tap sprint, reverts to walking if you take your finger off W for a split second while decelerating entirely to a stop if you take too long or smoothly transition back into a walk if you just press W again late.
Tapping ctrl goes into a short slide then continues to sprint, holding it into the slide or pressing C slides into a crouchwalk and disables sprint.

My mouse is perfectly comfortable. It's shape is any egg you'd find in an office, but it has 2 buttons where the thumb is, and an extra 2 next to the wheel scroll, to the left and below it.
