Was the Nintendo 64 a good console?
>>390110009
no.
ye
>>390110009
>outclassed by PS1
>still used fucking cartridges
>barely any games
Never.
>>390110009
Yes but the controllers sucked
>>390110009
No, but it still had a handful of great games on it, particularly Sin and Punishment.
yes and the games still have replay value until today
>>390110009
Considering that getting a working psx title working is a miracle nowadays, I´d say te n64 was designed for the long run. It is pretty sweet senpai
>>390110009
no but it had great games
>>390110009
it was the Sega Genesis of it's time. Had some good titles but overall paled in comparison to the PS1
Eh. It's alright. It's on the weaker side as far as ninty consoles go. The weakest being the wii u, the n64 really didn't have anything great besides like 3-4 games. The ps1 had a far better library. Plus I feel like the carts are so goddamn hard to get working nowadays
Mario's block fingers will haunt me forever
>>390110009
Quality > Quantity
>INB4 Spyro and FF
>>390110851
PS1 beats the N64 in quality and quantity
>>390110851
>m-muh Rare games that aged like milk
It had an objectively inferior library to the PS1 as far as sheer quantity and variety goes
That doesn't make the N64 bad though. Both consoles were great
>>390110009
If you ignore 20 second loop mono sound and horrible controller that was never fixed yes it was decent
>>390110009
The 5200 was the last console that was bad as a product of being so primitive. E.g. the 2600 was great. And every major console after that was great. The Xbox was the first to re-introduced the concept of a major console with a bad controller and bad/limited games (I'm using the word "major" to exclude the Jaguar). Literally all it had was Halo and that minigame collection. It eventually fixed both those issues, but ever since then we've been stuck with at least one console per generation being garbage.
>>390110009
yes
>>390110851
>>390110009
yes
What did the N stand for?
>>390111263
How long are people going to use the phrase "aged like milk"?
>>390113289
Nintendo.
>>390113295
>perfect "15fps" dark
that game was unplayable when it came out
>>390113250
The PS1 had plenty of all time awful games even if they weren't as well known
The N64 had the better hardware, and unlike the current gen example had plenty of games of it's own, it's just that the PS1 had an enormous amount of games
>>390113513
Its pretty standard performance for the time, better than anything the PSX could do.
>>390113289
nigger
*gets demonetized*
>>390110009
It had the same problem as the Wii U, the only good games were first party games, with the exception of Rare. HOW many non first party non Rare exclusive N64 games can you think of at the top of your head
>>390113641
>Its pretty standard performance for the time
not on PC, which always had better fps titles. the only people who tolerated rare's garbage was because it was all they knew.
>>390113548
fyi your pic is from arcadekids' bubsy 3d art project thing that came out a few years ago, not the actual ps1 game
>>390113957
>not on PC, which always had better fps titles
Not in the days of early 3D, this narrative really shows a lack of historical knowledge.
>>390114290
Dude, PD was released in 2000. PC players already had Quake III by that point. It was behind the times.
>>390115469
PD was running on 1996 hardware.
>>390115545
yes, exactly
>>390110009
Yes, unlike its controller
>>390110419
>hard to get carts to work
Wow
>>390110009
The Nintendo 64 was made for Super Mario 64. It was an awesome game, but the rest of the library somewhat suffered.
>>390110268
Huh?
If you mean
>>390115863
The real weak point is the complete lack of RPGs. It had Tactics Ogre, some random shit game I can't remember the name of, Quest Shitty4, and Hybrid Heaven. Am I missing any?
>>390110009
It was an average to below average console. It baffles my mind that so many people shit themselves over how little worthwhile games there were on the Wii bar first party titles and how the golden era of Nintendo ended with the 64 when the N64 had this issue in fucking spades. I'd go as far as to say that there are fewer 3rd Party titles that are worth checking out on the 64 than there are on the Wii.
That being said, there are some really great games on the 64, no doubt about it, but it was easily outmatched by the PS1 that gen.
>>390116042
OG Paper Mario.
>>390110346
the megadrive won its console war thouh
>>390110009
Man. I ain't even going to reply to your shit post OP. Here's a better question; Why was company wars and console slogans better back in the day?
>>390110168
>still used fucking cartridges
>He bought the disc meme
Hahah faggot.
>>390110009
I grew up with both it and a PS1. It was a shitty console with *some* great games.
the only game that made me REALLY want to get an n64 was wwf no mercy.
>>390116213
I feel bad for forgetting that. In my defense, it's a very unique game. Either way, that isn't enough RPGs.
>>390110009
no. most of the games sucked and the ones that didnt got better versions on gamecube. the only game worth playing is Paper Mario
also garbage controller
>>390110009
Yes, but the controllers are possibly the worst of any console.
Decent console, shit controller.
Like many Nintendo consoles, much of the quality from its library comes from Nintendo themselves. So if you don't like their games, you won't like the N64 (nor any of their following consoles). I liked SM64, OoT and MM, Paper Mario, SF64, Kirby 64, Smash Bros., Goldeneye, possibly a couple others I'm forgetting at the moment. No matter, that was enough of a library for me. Also the king of multiplayer back in the day thanks to four controller ports.
>>390113295
For as long as there are people who don't respect the fact that Perfect Dark is what FPS games SHOULD have become.
ITT: Console wars over 20 year old systems
>>390110009
It had nogaems or 3rd party support, like every Nintendo home console since Sony joined the market.
>>390113957
I revisit Perfect Dark more frequently than Half-Life and Unreal to be h.
>>390110009
Yes. I still have mine with all the games. Unfortunately, while the stick is responsive and works well enough when it's new, they are such garbage when the springs wear out. I was unable to beat SM64 100% with my old worn out one.
Better than the gamecube at least.
its tied with the gamecube as the most overrated nintendo console
It had a few truly stellar titles, but not much else going for it. PS1 beats it handily.
>>390110009
>gets out
