I just started playing a week or so ago and though I put it down to play some other stuff, I'm enjoying it. I got to the dwarf city.

I find it strange that literally every single mission briefing in suikoden 2 says "we're outnumbered as fuck and will get murdelized".

I can see at the start(when you first made use of the castle) where each of the 4 highland companies had 20k peeps and you only had 12k.

But literally after forming an alliance with 2 river, one third of the matilda knights, gregminster and rokaku, part of kibas army, tinto, liberating muse and greenhill and just kicking ass in general they tell you "oh its 30k vs 80k" before trying to take over rockaxe, are these guys mass producing their soldiers or someshit? Plus some of them retreated because you had "backup" in the form of the chefs/innkeeper/civilians in disguise as soldiers? the fuck

It was produced by a big name anime studio from the time. The 30 second intro anime style opening was better than the whole game.

3 has redeemable things about it. It introduced fun things like mounts and area bosses and the skill system could make some characters pretty beefy and fun to watch attack.

Remember that 3 ends with the usual post-Final-Boss-defeat collapse of the final area, except the battle takes place in a massive football-stadium-sized open courtyard where everyone would be perfectly safe from collapsing structures.

Even if you had 6, 90% of the cast was the same 1-handed sword stance. Even the MC is before inexplicably getting a pair of TEUX KEWL dual daggers for no raisin.

2 had the greatest weapon variety and was so beautifully animated. There was a 3-section staff, tonfa, claws, multiple hand-to-hand animations, spears, and some characters (like Marlowe's Trident) has special weapons for their crits.

Fucking crazy how shit the series went in 1 game. V tried but it wasn't quite enough.

3 was a game with a lot of interesting ideas that were executed poorly. I like the idea of multiple POVs because for a series that's about warfare and multiple factions it's an idea that I feel is fitting for the series. I also think it not going back to 2's formula was a good idea because 2 already perfected that formula; when I played Suikoden 5 it just felt like a poor man's 2. Suikoden 4 should've improved on 3 the same way 2 improved 1's formula, but the series is dead so whatever
