I ended up going with Yen. Honestly not a fan of her, but Triss feels so fake. And yes I've read the books. I don't know why people think if you've read the books that you'll automatically adore Yennefer. But having read the books Triss definitely comes off as worse. The best choice for Geralt is to just stay the fuck away from sorceresses.

while Shani is the best girl in the game, I feel like she wouldn't work out with Geralt. not that they wouldn't be happy, but that she is mortal and Geralt would have to watch her grow old and die while he goes on to live for another hundred years or so. at least with Yen and Triss they have magic to keep them alive for the same span as Geralt.

We only get to see the bits in their relationship where they get smart and quippy with each other in the games. In the books Yen is pretty much a shit most of the time she's with Geralt and a full-time shit when she isn't. I agree we don't get much of a reason to like her in the books but we're given even more reason to like her in Witcher 3 specifically.

I feel like the basis for their relationship stems from a few key things:
- they both love Ciri, but then, everyone loves Ciri
- through Ciri they could pretend to be a family, which is something they both deeply desire
- they're both edgy gloomy people who push most people away
- they "like" each other for unique reasons; for the most part people would only love Yen because she's hot and powerful and people only would love Geralt for his dick - Yen and Geralt for some fucking reason have vague unclear reasons for actually liking each other intellectually

We've said it a lot. They're not that perfect couple, but they are perfect for each other in their shitty way.

The wish was a corrupted wish as it is with most mythological djinn wishes. It brought them together and supernaturally forced their paths to cross but it did not force them to love each other. It was simply a coincidence that they in actuality DO love each other.

The Witcher-sex thing is irrelevant to me. Most people want to fuck Geralt because he and his profession are the medieval equivalent of firefighters or astronauts. They're exotic primarily, which you're right about in the case of Triss. While I have no doubts Triss does love Geralt, the basis of her love is that she's landed an astronaut moreso than liking the person.

Because Geralt is an unlovable person. He is about 1000% more amicable in the games than he is in the books. The vast majority of time spent by Triss growing to love Geralt is done in the books where Geralt babysits her through some really shitty (pun) parts of her life. Triss wanted Geralt for all the bad reasons people want people: because he's an astronaut, because he's kind, because he belongs to someone else. She loves Geralt but she doesn't care much about what Geralt wants - which is super clear if you pick her in Witcher 3.

Triss was first attracted to Geralt because she had a lifetime of failed relationships and when she saw Yennefer happy with someone, she was jealous. She associated Geralt with that happiness and when him and Yen were separated, went after him because she was in love with the idea of being in love.
