Trying to focus on both max-level players and new casuals at the same time. Led to dropping the difficulty IMMENSELY in early stages and made everything a race to the endgame. Which, of course, led to them rushing content and ultimately ending up where we are now, in the fucking nether where we never should have gotten to for at least a few more years.

They need to pull another xpac that will fix the early and midgame. Otherwise, new people aren't going to want to play anymore when they realize it's either slug through some boring poorly-aged content or buy yourself an endgame boost. That's no fun at all, especially when the whole point of WoW was that you had a whole massive world to discover.

After what happened to Wildstar and WoD, two MMOs who catered to raiders above everything else, it's clear WoW suceeded in spite of raiders, not because of them.

subscribers were on a constant growrth throughout vanilla and TBC. when wrath launched, the growth almost stopped completely, peaking slightly above TBC numbers. subs mostly stagnated, and when cata launched they started dropping.

I just got to SW for the first time in my life.
You can really tell this game was a trip back in the day, my mind would have been blown in 2004.
Playing through WoW has this bittersweet melancholy to it. It's still somewhat magical to explore the world even if it's been streamlined since inception.
