The true master race is both, for different reasons. Western fantasy has an aesthetic and feel to it that most Japanese RPGs don't have. That said, there are exceptions like Demon's Souls, and a lot of the aesthetic and general appeal of that is similar to Western RPGs. The way attributes work in western RPGs is something I love as well. Creating a character and seeing their flaws and strengths play out in a meaningful way as you interact with the world feels great. On the other hand, I love JRPGs because I enjoy seeing a fun cast of characters go on an adventure and growing as people in a much more fantastical world than one might see in Western fantasy. You don't really see that in WRPGs so much. JRPGs tend to have more enjoyable battle systems as well, imo.

If I had to pick though, i'd choose JRPGs

nier, MH, souldborne, drag dog, nioh, botw(?) are all among my fav games/series.

I've always burned out on western rpgs either because of the lackluster combat and uninteresting artstyle/world

JRPGs have better gameplay but WRPGs have better immersion which matters more to me in an RPG.

If I wanted good gameplay, I'd play fighting games and actiong adventure games. Otherwise, I'd rather play games like Mount and Blade where I can ravage entire countrysides and play into some bit of politics and resource management. The most important thing about RPGs to me is how close it captures the PnP experience anyway.

I've played a lot more JRPGs, but the standouts of the WRPGs I've played left a pretty great impression. I'd choose JRPG over the other with some difficulty because I feel there's a little more variety with the mechanics and narrative themes.

Play Resonance of Fate. I guess the story is like a farcicle comedy with some random ass drama in it. The drama is kinda poor, but the fun times is pretty fun.

But you're really playing for the incredibly unique combat system.

Japan had a huge army on the Soviet border the entire war because they were rightfully afraid that Stalin would come after them. Its one of the reasons the US beat them so badly because they didn't start moving troops from that front until it was far to late in the war. Hell they didn't even really think the US was going to go after them so hard after their navy got crippled.

There is literally no choice and consequence in Bloodborne, while Witcher 3 has plenty, there are tons of quests that affect the ending, having two binary choices at the end of bloodborne doesn't count as roleplaying weeb.
