There's more of an emphasis on female characters now instead of them just being party members that join and help you fight the big bad. They almost always have to be the key to everything and everything revolves around them. Also, there has to be a forced romance in there, too. Any story that solely revolves around a female character is already ruined.

At least it's obvious by the covers. If there's one guy surrounded by a bunch of girls, a majority of girls with a couple of guys pushed to the back or sides, or nothing but girls on the cover, I know the game is garbage and not even worth looking bothering with.

Persona 5 and Dragon Quest 11 are pretty much the best "traditional" turn based jrpgs, Soulsborne, Nioh, NierA, MH etc. are the best action jrpgs

only FF has "fallen" recently yet everyone acts like that means the end for Japanese rpgs.
