It's more proof that the Mario series is an example of an unreliable narrator. Mario thinks he's rescuing Peach from a monster, yet that monster is father who loves his son. Further more Peach always seems to end up in the arms of that monster, I know it's a bit of a cliche joke at this point, but there is plenty of evidence to suggest Mario is a spurned suitor and Bowser isn't that bad a guy, or in the case of being a father, actually a really responsible parent.

I've already said in a whole different thread this might just be Bowser Jr. blowing things out of proportions/Ubisoft writers' case scenario. I'm saying those are all from the view point of Mario. For all we know we might be seeing his literal delusions and hallucinations. Maybe he isn't locking peach up, he's locking Mario out and Mario is so far off the deep end he assumes that if he can't get in, she can't get out. Maybe it's not even a cage, but a completely normal platform that he views as a cage. Maybe Boswer doesn't have a clown car, but Mario sees it as that because "Bowser is such a loser, he drives a clown car". This is all obviously a stretch and the answer is "it's a kids' game and bowser is a saturday morning cartoon villain and he's a good father because Nintendo needed him to be for that one commercial since they have no big name other father/son combos", but it's a fun thought experiment to try to look at it from a different angle.
