You know, in the end the Vita got so much shit because the console had real games instead of exclusives too, because it's game could easily be ported into home consoles, as the graphics are good enough for easy up-res. This cause the console to lose exclusivity of it's games.

The SaGa remakes of 2 and 3 are vaporware in the west.

I still use my vita occasionally. Some of the indie games it got were good. Severed was a really really good game. Total surprise, since I figured it was some sort of walking sim or a visual novel by the marketing around it when it came out. I got it on PS+ recently and it was fucking fantastic.

I don't have a Vita, but as a handheld lover I feel bad for the missed opportunity this console was.
Here's my fix:

You cannot claim normies attention with Vita anymore since it's not new, and casual players only cares for consoles when they are the new shit.
But, I don't think releasinga totally new portable console could end well for Sony, first of all you have a story with the Vita, and most people would be eager to buy a console that could end up without first parties again. Yes, you could dodge the dead predecessor meme by making some kind of all-new all-diferent gimmick like Nintendo did with Switch after WiiU crash, but let's face it, who the fuck remotely wants another shitty gimmick like motion control/3D/VR, we know how that shit ends.
So, I propose a "soft reboot", like they did with New 3DS, or the current PS4 Pro/Scorpio
Vita's current hardware is still capable, they shouldn't even try making it more powerful. Just some more resolution/framerate shit and that's all. What was a mistake in 2011 (being too powerful and expensive to development) would be a hit today.
Then, it will be time to put all major first and second parties to work on new titles. They should make sure to advertise it as backwards compatible with original Vita.
Get rid of the propietary card, since piracy it's been proven to not be a problem to Nintendo, and made it compatible with standards sd.
If they put some money on advertising, it could be the greatest handheld ever

The Vita sticks are barely better than the PSP nub, as crap as that was at least they had the good sense to make the thing textured rather than smooth and concave. Vita's movement at least feels a bit freer, but it barely matches the degree of freedom of the circle pad and isn't nearly as comfortable.
