I've been playing this for around 5 hours. I didn't play it when it was released nor i've ever played another star fox game. I'm not even bothered with all the blue fox furry material but somehow the more I play it the more I feel something isn't well made on this game.

What are your thoughts on this title? Does it need some nostalgia factor to truly enjoyed it?

It was good till they turned it into a faggy Star Fox game.
>>
>>390014798

I loved Rare I loved Starfox games. so I don't know why I never went around to playing this.
>>
>>390014798
It was a shitty fetch quest that made you feel more like an errand boy than anything else.
>>
the only reason the games is hated is because in that time everyone was expecting a starfox game and even if this game have the starfox name on it, it didn't feel like a starfox game BUT for me it was a good game, it felt like a zelda game but with more content at that time
>>
>>390014798
>What went so wrong?
Miyamoto made them turn it into a Star Fox game and that's all. It's a solid game that doesn't deserve all the shit it's getting from people.
>>
>>390016803
Agreed. I enjoyed it and have fond memories of playing it. It's a weird mix of a Zelda game with Star Fox in it but I don't mind that.

KRAZOA PALACE
>>
NOPE

THAT'S TOO LOW

>it didn't feel like a starfox game BUT for me it was a good game
Pretty much exactly how I feel about it. Slapping Star Fox on the game did way more damage than good. The vast majority of criticism towards it is that its completely different from other Star Fox games.

But it's the first time I play it and I've never touched any other starfox game, yet it feels terribly wrong somehow, like a badly executed Zelda OoT.

It's somehow reminds me as how I used to enjoy Sonic Adventure 2 when i was a kid but playing it after some years I actually realized that overall that game is pretty bad
>>
>>390018221
How far are you into the game? What do you think is badly executed? You have to be more specific. I really don't see anything wrong with it besides the obvious problem of turning it into a game it was never meant to be.
>>
>>390014798
It's unironically the best star fox game.
>>
IIRC in multiplayer you could fly up in an Arwing then get out and just stand on it while it was still gliding. Can anyone confirm or did I just make that up?
>>
>>390019460
Adventures didn't have mp. You might be thinking of Assault.
>>
>>390018743
I left it after you leave the fist spellstone at the volcanic temple and the Krazoa Spirit appears to you telling you to help Krystal.

Certain things annoy me like the unpractical inventory for the rod's skills and how repetitive the fights with minions are (basically mashing A button before you get hit). Also certain sound effects and songs definitely don't belong to this game, like the music when you climb the mammoths and the noises of the jumping mushrooms. They try to tell you the situation is critical and you should hurry and focus on your mission but the environment feels like they are having a happy day like in a Conker's Bad Fur Day game.

Perhaps if going to part A to part B didn't feel like a puzzle just to reach a point with even more puzzles and they saved all the puzzles to the dungeon, my perception of this game would've been more positive.

did you not enjoy ocarina of time too? because you basically describe it, my only guess it's that you can get to enjoy old games if they don't have the nostalgia factor for you
>>
>>390014798
I liked looking up Krystal's loin cloth

>Slapping Star Fox on the game did way more damage than good.
True, but no one would remember it if Rare had released it as Dinosaur Planet.
>>
>>390014798
I got stuck at the strength trial cause I couldn't mash a fast enough so I gave up
>>
>>390020392
>unpractical inventory
How would you improve it?
>repetitive fights, button mashing
I mean you can mash A, but you are supposed to use combos to defeat the enemies and if you don't then it takes longer which might be the reason why you thought the combat was repetitive. Also different enemies have different mechanics.
>music when you climb the mammoths and the noises of the jumping mushrooms. They try to tell you the situation is critical and you should hurry and focus on your mission but the environment feels like they are having a happy day like in a Conker's Bad Fur Day game.
I don't remember this and can't find it atm so I can't comment on it, but I can't see this being the dealbreaker for anyone to drop the game.

Maybe you just don't enjoy the game? What exactly did you expect from the game?
>>

I truly like Ocarina, but things feel different there. At least for the ones I'm complaining, you have all the 3 C-buttons to arrange your items which makes less menu-arranging for a while. The battles, while you could sword fight all the way you could also avoid close range combat using the slingshot to kill at long distance or the hookshot to stun. Also the environment there doesn't feel like a happy day when the situation constantly tells you that the world is in danger, and to reach your destination you need (for the most parts) an item someone gives you instead of solving puzzles all the way to the dungeons.

I'm not saying that Star Fox Adventure is crap. It has some nice features, like Fox's mobility and Tricky being responsive and useful during the puzzles, but when the prize of solving puzzle is a new puzzle somehow i start to get tired of the game.

>no one would remember it if Rare had released it as Dinosaur Planet.
I really don't think so. All of Rare's titles from that time are still well known to this day. I'm sure the Star Fox brand boosted sales though.

>>390018221
whether or not you were a fan of starfox, the decision to make it a starfox game made most of the cutscenes a parade of excuses for why it doesn't play like a starfox game (general pepper lecturing you about being obsessed with using a blaster gun cause we all know fox mcCloud is a hot headed shoot first ask questions later kind of blue falcon).

The core game is pretty tedious, but if they had actually managed to rope people into the world better, it would probably be more enjoyable.
>>
>>390021787
If you could assign more than one item or skill at time with the D-Pad or the C-stick instead of assigning to Y button each time you need a skill, things would've gone better in that aspect.

Also for the A mashing, i mean the combos. Also due to the lack of more than one button to assign a skill you end up fighting one vs one with the rod instead of trying long distance attacks or mixing the ice skill with the earthquake, for example, which woud have made Huge improvement in battles. Perhaps i didn't go deep enough to find other enemies than the sharpclaws or the bats

For the story setting, if things would've gone all comedic I wouldn't bother at all, I would probably actually enjoyed it even more, like in the banjo kazoe games, same if this would've been all serious or dramatic setting. Perhaps the unexpected mixture of both is what makes me not to take it seriously even when I try (like the porn movie like sax music when Fox meets Krystal)
>>
>absurdly shallow combat
>excessive backtracking
>game has you mostly escorting exploding barrels past obstacles to blow up a wall
>staff powers under-utilized, heavily context-sensitive
>Arwing sections suck
>never get to fight Scales
>get a gimped Andross fight instead
Should have stayed as its own thing instead of throwing in Star Fox. Music was pretty good though.
