Xbox at the end of the day has it's regular exclusives, and backwards compatability, which is over rated. Don't get me wrong, it's nice, but going back one gen is a bit silly considerinv you likely still own the last console. People want new games, playing thier old ones on a new machine is... meh.

What Sony did, putting up PS2 games digitally with trophy support, is smart. The PS2 has prolific system issues over time, and the achievements can give you a new way to enjoy old classics. They should work on digitizing more, you could hit that nostalgia market hard, considering 99% of these games are never going to be remastered, and future consoles can still download them digitally.

europe just going off last gen was a massive success for MS. they were the best selling console in many of the big countries e.g. france, italy, spain etc alongside the wii. the ps3 was only the best selling console out of the 3 in germany. the wii still had the biggest impact on europe out of all the 7th gen consoles though.

Multiplats (specifically multiplayer) are better on PS4 than anywhere else (not talking about performance retard), only /r/pcmr morons think otherwise. Want to play CoD, Battlefront/field, Sports games, Destiny, etc.? Do it on Playstation. Why? Bigger playerbases and exclusive content. The Xbone has sold over 30m units total. With JUST the FIFA sales, that swing would put Xbox at roughly 50m to the PS4's current rough 60m, which is really within spitting distance and wouldn't be a "massive win" for the PS4 at all.

That's JUST FIFA. That doesn't count the other European sales at all - many of which were very likely influenced by the PS4's popularity due to FIFA. That is to say, FIFA influenced more people to buy the PS4 than just the 11m people who actually bought FIFA, because those 11m people formed a marketing base for the console. It's unknown exact how large this additional contingent could be, but it could easily form an additional 5m swing, putting Microsoft neck and neck with Sony.

The post I was replying to was trying to discredit that the PS4 won because of FIFA. The hypotheticals show what would happen if the PS4 didn't have FIFA. According to my hypothesis (the PS4 won because of FIFA), the PS4 should NOT win if it doesn't have FIFA, and we see that that is the case.

If you are arguing about the reason a console "won", then how do you propose to do that without using a hypothetical? In order to prove that a given reason is why a console won, you have to demonstrate that the console would lose without that reason, otherwise that reason is clearly not the reason for victory, because victory would have happened regardless. Therefore, a conditional hypothetical is actually required in this argument in order to prove your point.

PS4 is winning because they actually release single player games while Microsoft is too busy hamfist online components in all of their games. Honestly, Microsoft completely and utterly undervalues the single player experience. They're cutting away half of the market by appeasing only to online fans. Look at what they did to Fable and compare that to Sony's The Last Guardian. If Microsoft owned The Last Guardian they would have either

A: Cancelled the game after going through development hell for so long
or
B: forced in some seamless online component that has no purpose in the fucking game

Sony fosters brand loyalty. They realize they entered the console market in the golden age of video games and they're appealing to the core audience to further solidify a loyal fanbase. They take risks with series (Unlike Microsoft) and can actually grow third party support (unlike Nintendo)

This. Xbox shit the bed right out the gate with a terrible reveal of the xbone that focused on TV rather than games. After that they had the always online controversy, the no game borrowing, that time the CEO said that the offline solution for people wanting an xbox would be to buy a 360. It had to be the worst handling of a console annoucement i've ever seen. even the wii u wasn't that bad
