Thoughts on Wasteland 2? Thinking of getting it on PS4 since I no longer have a PC.

>>389968525
It is fun although I imagine a cRPG would be a drag to play on a console.
>>
>>389968643
I can dig it, a sacrifice I must now make. It's a solid game though?
>>
>>389968932
Yeah I have 22 hours into it over a handful of days so far.
>>
>>389968525
I would hate to play it with the ds4 but... it's great, I love this game. If you're a fan of the early Fallouts - get this game.
>>
how do you not have a pc

>playing on a console
For what purpose? Its a great game but your platform is shit. My suggestion: get a computer and play it.
>>
>>389969370
I hope they put some effort into balancing the different weapons. felt bad having my energy weapons being less effective per shot than machineguns vs robots
>>
>>389969010
I have over 100 hours. That is just on one very thorough play through. They even make a joke about DLCs directly in the game like "what you expected to download something else" here https://steamcommunity.com/app/240760/discussions/0/613939294232332526/
>you didn't think we would really try to sell you DLC did you?
That on its own should tell you something about the game and its creators. There's roughly two different sections to the game and just completing the one feels almost like a you played a "full" game only to play an expanion right after.

Wasteland 3 is the only possible upcoming game I am really excited about. I heard of Age of Empires 4 but really I'm just not interested. I bought XCOM2 but all these stupid DLCs for a few extra missions and skins I refuse to do.
>>
>>389969503
>Spending $500+ for one game

I seriously hope you don't do this. I played Divinity on PS4 and it's pretty good, not much different than on PC where I played it at first but found unbearable due to my shitty laptop.
>>
>>389969978
having a computer also lets you do other things
>>
>>389969507
Oh you mean assault rifles? Yeah the highest end rifles are better than almost anything else. Main issue is low enough damage and no crit chance makes equipping standard assault rifles and sniper rifles + pistols better since they also work well in people whereas energy is poor against anything without armor. Still with the plasma beamer you can consistently do roughly 250-300dmg/turn

Speaking of robots a major thing to keep in mind is your computer skill also works on them so you can hack one in the middle of battle. Animal whisper functions the same way. If it isn't human theoretically you can mind control it.
>>
>>389970583
not assault rifles, the LMGs, what were they called, support guns or something?

>plasma beamer
I can't specifically remember which energy weapon was good, but I remember you're meant to keep a random shit one from half way through the game because its hidden anti-armor stat is way stronger than the 'better' energy guns you get later on that are all weak as shit

it's not hard to fix this shit, I'm surprised the 'director's cut' or whatever didn't do it
>>
>>389969978
I simply don't own any consoles. I have no reasons to at all. Most of the games are available on PC and I can use a computer for day to day stuff not just gaming. Also the always on invasiveness of consoles has effectively made it that I will never own a console again in my entire life. At that point it's nothing but a piece of spyware in an electronic brick that's only useful for watching shows and playing games, also I never really liked console controls that much.
>>
I was kind of let down at the mid game, past some canyons, against robots, where every enemy takes the whole team a turn to take down.
The zone boss was extremely annoying. After reading some threads about it, it seems I specialized into the wrong weapons.
Didn't play it since then.
>>
>>389970765
SMGs and I'm surprised those did anything since they don't scale up with armor penetration very well and robots tend to have 8-10 armor. Not only that but SMGs have pistol tier ranges or shorter, and hit chance drops off massively so you practically have to be standing next to them.
Precision shot at a distance from behind cover > running up to burst someone in the face out of cover
>>
>>389970813
> also I never really liked console controls
if you ever come around to them, all multiplat games on pc support xbox controller
>>
>>389970530
True, but I do have a computer it's just not for games. A laptop that works very well for what I do with it which is studying and writing stuff. I don't have the space or the money for a desktop which I would then not be able to carry around.

>>389970813
But we aren't talking about you are we? we are talking about why wouldn't you play a game on a PS4 which can be played perfectly fine. Like I said, I don't have a powerful PC because it's just not a good fit right now for me and I can't justify spending that much money for the one or two games that you can't play on a PS4.
>>
>>389971032
again anon, LMGs. the ones styled after real world LMGs, they're big and long range and shit melts
>>
>>389968525
I seem to recall it being pretty decent, but I got bored once I got to the trainyard and the shit-tier main quest there and haven't picked it up since.

I'm generally not a fan of games with parties of completely player created party members.
>>
>>389971018
Yeah it is around the canyons that things seem to start dragging a little bit, but once you clear out Domonta and finish your business there the game gets MASSIVELY better.
>wrong weapons
Doubt. You can use pretty much anything which I frankly think is a bit broken since even a person specialialized in bladed weapons or clubs can still go toe to toe with strongest robots. Ultimately it makes little difference although a character not using a gun is probably either going down or getting in the way a lot. Even shotguns can still work at highest tiers which is kinda dumb imo.

Although probably what you did was specialize either in shotguns or something where you did the build wrong (not taking perks to make your blast stop spraying team mates) or because you picked energy weapons or heavy weapons early on in the game where there's almost no weapons and ammo for it. In fact energy my b like Fallout are not something to put any dots in before kid game.
>>
>>389969969

I know ill sound like a fucking shill but the dlc for xcom 2 is pretty good. Seriously the wotc expac is worth the buy, but pirate it if you cant afford to pay 40. It makes the game much more chaotic and overall more fun. Cant recommend it enough
>>
game is good, started it a while ago on ps4. unfortunately, other games have been distracting me but i have about 30 hours in it.

be very sure to have characters with good medical abilities in your quad though, absolutely necessary.
>>
Is it strong on exploration?
>>
All I can remember is that rifles, shotguns and action points is king.
>>
>>389969347
It died and I can't afford to replace it right now. My laptop isn't up to snuff.

>>389971663
Noted, thanks.

>>389971521
I've been considering XCOM 2 as well, the first one didn't get me as moist as I was hoping though so I'm not sure.
>>
>>389972830
XCOM 2 with DLC is flawless, that's why you never see /v/ complaining about it
>>
>>389972979
most of /v/ probably didn't play it because nu-xcom 1 wasn't very good
>>
>>389971742

I never played it or the first game. Is it like classic fallouts or a completely different take on the post-apocaliptic rpg vibe??

>>
>>389973630
>>389973630
Yes very. There also really isn't any particular order to do things in and you can have a very separate play through experience depending on some earlier decisions. Like you are required to help either Ag Center or Highpool, but no matter what you can't save both which means every single NPC including recruitable NPCs are going to be dead before you have a chance to meet them. After that the only thing really stopping you from progressing to certain areas is getting strong enough radsuits. But otherwise you can just wander around the map looking for various territories like Darwin and maybe even the Rail Nomads Iirc aren't even necessary for completing the game. Of course the more you make bad decisions the more heavily it impacts the wasteland and that includes deciding to take no action as much as the wrong one. But yeah exploration wise it is basically Fallout which means you can mostly do things in any order. You also can choose who you want to side with in a conflict, if any, or you want to waste NPCs. Of course random killing like a raider will eventually get some NPCs to abandon your cause and act like a big enough murderous asshole you get treated as a rogue element and the Rangers send death squads after you.

It literally is like Fallout with some XCOM or Tactics tier combat elements. Running out of water also isn't even a factor. You think it might be earlier on but the map while big enough for exploring is still small enough you won't get stranded in the desert and die of thirst unless you're being really painfully stupid and negligent.
>>
>>389974507
Thats xcom 1

>>
>>389973927
It is literally the same just more reliant on a squad and set in a slightly different world.

What you should consider is that Fallout itself was a successor to the original Wasteland. Wasteland 2 is basically the spiritual successor to Fallout (and IIRC all those games done by the same people more or less, whereas Tactics, FNV and 3 and 4 were done by completely different people hence being separate games)

The feel of the combat is a lot like XCOM. The actual system is based on combat initiative and works roughly the same as Fallout did but with cover, some of it destructible. The overall feel of the game is 100% Fallout.

Fallout 1 and 2, specially 2, had some bigger focus on the humor. I remember being a porn star, a boxer champion, a made man and the captain of the guard of a random city. The roleplaying aspects of those games were the most fun to me. There was so much i could do. Can i expect a similar experience with Wasteland 2?

If the answer is yes i will buy it right now.

Well you're with a team and the team you're on is part of a larger organization you fight for so in that sense I guess it could be more limited than if you were simply some random guy running around, but otherwise yes I think so. I haven't tried it yet but I know you can do things like visit a brothel and work for various factions in Game for instance I ended up being a sort of bounty hunter for the Mannerites. But you don't truly become members of another faction afaik or at least I never in full tried it. You can still pretend to be various different factions although wearing different clothes appears purely cosmetic.
>>
>>389968525
shit game. It's like fallout except without the dialogue or the charm to back it up.

Also it's buggier and every character is less likeable.
>>
>>389978727

There's no karma system btw which is I guess really weird for a game that plays so much like Fallout because of you loved Fallout you don't realize how much you're used to being notified of karma loss or gain somehow. Nope not hear. The closest thing is General Vargas will chew you out on the radio (you can even sometimes lie to him about what happened) and some party members will tell you directly I am not a robot I'm not just going to open fire on innocent people (which you can still do, thus forcing them to fight but after like two or three times they'll turn on you too). So really there isn't much to go on other than your own instincts and a few in game cues which can be misleading, for example towards the end of the first half what looks like an obvious good choice is I think one of the worst possible choices. So there's a realpolitik element where you eventually realize you don't feel too different than raiders or gangs and that part of your mission is ultimately stabilizing the Wastes, not trying to have the nicest sanest people in charge all the time, so I do also give it credit for that. There is still a postscript which shows you what happens to the various towns and characters after game ends just like in the first two though. But idk if you can do things like prostitute yourself. Now that I think about it You can eat human meat, and I think mystery meat actually gives you buffs like chems would.
>>
>>389978727
>>389978816

Alright, not quite what i was expecting from it, but it seems similar enough.

Thanks
>>
>>389978802
Likeability I do agree with but it is mostly in the earlier game, which sadly often does mean if you're scum saving that you'll keep them throughout the whole game. My suggestion? Do NOT end up relying on them. Particularly not Rose as she's also a big liability in more ways than are even apparent until very late. I don't even know why it just feels like they were written by some autistic sperg who wrote the lines high on Adderall all the time. I don't even know how to describe it but they're just eerily annoying, like it is unnatural how they are it creeps you out and you want to shoot them.

Lexcanium wasn't too bad and I actually liked Pistol Pete. That Asian miner and Rose however I kept wanting to shoot in the face. The mutant too, but she stopped being quite as annoying and basically feels like having Mission Vau with you. Although honestly I didn't even see all NPCs and had little experience outside of those ones as by the time I had enough team mates to swap people out I had already distributed useful skills in a way it would be crippling to drop Rose for awhile for instance. You'll end up with people whose skills are irraplaceable as not having anybody who can crack a safe or hack something quickly becomes very aggravating. But yeah the characters are all...awkward, that's the word. They're uncomfortably awkward.
>>
>>389968643

Most of them aren't, but I wasn't particularly happy with the way they ported Wasteland 2. Divinity OS and Pillars of Eternity control like a dream, this one doesn't. Plus, I really son't like the combat of W2, though the world is interesting.
>>
>>389980249
Tempted by PoE as well, I played it on PC quite a bit. Definitely got an itch to scratch. £45 is a bit much though, I can afford it but I'm not sure it's actually worth it.
>>
>>389968525
As of the current version, its solid. Release was pretty shitty but its been improved a ton. Worth playing if you want an old school squad based turn based RPG.
