Yes. The paid loot engrams can give you weapons, armor, and mods in addition to shaders, emblems, emotes, ships, and sparrows. Hell, you can get a sparrow in them before the game actually let's you have one (at level 20 after completely beating the campaign) so that in itself is a ridiculous advantage since they otherwise won't drop until you've unlocked it.

Played about 6 hours so far. It's the exact same game as before, but a little more polished. Still fun if you're into grinding. I can't put the time into it anymore though like I could with D1. Strikes with friends are fun.

Haven't touch PvP yet.

You get all the rest of the stuff, though. Most of that stuff is aesthetic, and all the Sparrows do is get you places a little faster.

Also, you just have to be level 20 not beat the campaign, since you get those engrams for free for every "level up" past 20. Which you can easily hit before you beat the campaign.

The boxes can be bought for real money or earned for free by leveling.

Once you hit the level cap (20) you continue to gain XP. You continue to gain "levels" at a constant rate with not xp curve but instead of leveling you get a loot box at each level.

There are XP boost items available for dirt cheap in game money to the point that you can easily get four or five loot boxes per day if you tried.

The items in the loot box are either cosmetic or don't matter until level 20 so they really don't give an advantage even if you do buy them.

The multiplayer does the same thing where literally everyone on the team gets credit for every single kill to make shitters feel better about themselves. And the scoreboard doesn't track deaths. From what I have seen the best thing you can get from the loot boxes is weapon mods and I have not seen any that would make a significant difference in PVP.

If you fully modded your entire gear list with "paid" mods it might give you a minor difference in stats but nothing that will matter compared to player skill.

That being said, I fully expect idiots to do just that and then blame their gear or build for losing.
