You rarely get any high level talismans from regular mining sites, and I think never get any of the top two grades. Although maybe you do, but very, very rarely.
Delvool trench is where the real mining is. You really gotta savescum though if you want any sensible returns from the investment. It's an online event, meaning it's only accessible randomly every other day or so. And dying kicks you out for good until the next time and you drop I think half of your charm stones gathered on this run.
But I could deal with losing charms, but having to wait days just to retry challenges is a bit too rough.

Deeper Delvool layers stop giving you low quality charms at all, but there are some useful skills found only on low quality charms. Which you want to hoard a lot of and then transmute into different shape for maximum stacking power.
Delvool is sort of like Chalice Dungeons in Bloodborne (Japan Studio's touch really feels in both of those), except not randomized. Every level is hand crafted and has a specific challenge you need to pass to proceed to the next layer. After you do it once, you don't have to redo anymore and can just take the portal to the next layer straight away.
I definitely got quite a few extra hours of gameplay between Delvool and doing challenges and finding treasures in the postgame.

Just finished the game. Pretty good, wish the controls were a little bit better

There's nothing wrong with controls.
The camera on the other hand can often get fucked up when you're close to a wall. And the upgrade from a handheld game to a fully fledged console game also unfortunately brought some negative changes with it. Specifically the level geometry became more complex, often leading to situations when you hit a tiny protrusion in a wall and your gravity direction goes bonkers.
