MGS4 should have been the last main line game in the franchise. MGS3 should have been the only title to feature Big Boss. Portable Ops, Peace Walker, and MGS V shouldn't have existed. Or in PO and PW's case, they should have been just neat little portable games with no major over-arching big boss plot wankery. More weird, more fun games like Metal Gear Acid should have been made instead. Honestly, I felt that the series needed a definite end, MGS4 offered that to a degree. It may not have been the best, but it offered a lot more plot resolution than MGS V: Big Boss -medic- (You can not redo) 4 ever did.

It's really nostalgia speaking. Fact is, MGS1-2 were not particularly great games. MGS1 specifically was just Metal Gear 2 (the MSX2 version) remade in 3D and most of the game after the boss fight with the Ninja feel more like a series of setpieces than an actual stealth action game. It's alright. Gameplay and controls are tight as fuck. Crawling with octo camo kind of breaks it a bit but if you try to ignore that and fuck around, it can be pretty cool. Act 1 and 2 are great but it goes downhill from there.
The story and how it's presented is fucking awful. It's just exposition dumps over a slideshow. Clearly nobody was around to tell Kojima that shit was boring and needed to be trimmed down, so it's him jacking off on the screen for 8 hours.
