They're good because in shitty casual modes TF2 is basically stalemate simulator and lucky crits can break that.

TF2 is terribly balanced and designed really in terms of balanced competitive gameplay.
The classes themselves are varying degrees of good, but the sum of its parts doesn't work well in a competitive environment

Crockets are bullshit, but not nearly as much as Sniper and Spy.

>Sniper: A class that can instakill at any range, in a game where no one else has ranged instakills of any kind or even enough long-range effectiveness to deter snipers (at least, before new weapons were added)
>Spy: A class that can instakill from behind, in a game where the health:damage ratio is high enough that fights involve facing towards the enemy for a long time

They're both designed without properly considering whether it's fair on the enemy.
One exploits you being able to do nothing to them while they can still instakill, one exploits the fact that you have to focus on the enemy and ignore the small chance that there's a spy behind you mid-fight.

All that Snipers and Spies contribute to the game are:
>chance of randomly dying while heading for the front lines
>chance of randomly dying mid-fight

It's rare that you get to play a TF2 match where neither team has snipers or spies, but it's way more fun.

They pretty much all have OHKO Snipers and OHKO Melee Knifings

Which is fine, sort of.
The game is fun as fuck in casual play, it just starts to get frustrating the more you play it if you start getting competitive with it. Which you inevitably will after a certain amount of time with the game

But thats not just TF2. Thats any game with competitive potential and good core gameplay but design flaws that stop it from being really competitively balanced

Probably because not every game needs to be 'competitive'. Focusing on how 'competitive' a game can be is a side effect of the removal of 'community' in games. Predominantly because the only other method to play is matchmaking, which requires some sort of rank structure or people cry about muh unfair.
