Most of the current major movies they distributed this year, Only Dark Tower failed. Yes, Emoji actually made profit and no don't use your marketing budget bs theory since marketing today is much cheaper when compared to 10 years ago due to social media and Sony only partially foot the bill on them since most of the movies they released this year are collabs with other studios. This is a reason why Sony has the audacity to release those mediocre films, the risk is not all that great.
