Agreed. Morrowind is my personal favorite game of all time. Love the world, love the story, love the gameplay, love the charaters (Divayth Fyr's awesome, and you get to meet fucking Queen Barenziah). The weapon system is better (spears and thrown weapons still exist, and weapons are actually divided into proper categories), any kind of enchantment can be placed on any item, Night Eye doesn't look like shit, Mark, Recall, and Levitate were still a thing, Daedric equipment was properly rare and properly valued, making it feel like it was as powerful as it should be, the beast races (Argonians and Khajiit) were properly anthropomorphic, the Daedric Crescent was awesome... I could go on for days.

Everything becomes way too easy once you hit the 15~20ish range. Even the highest scaled enemies offer no challenge. This is also thanks to the horrendous AI, which can't pathfind for shit, and will flee in terror and glitch out if you jump sorta high.
Combat is more mindless and boring than Oblivion and Skyrim. You just swing at things until they die; weapons have different values for Slash, Thrust, and Chop, but there's no real reason to use anything other than the best type for your weapon. Magic seems deep at first as well, but there's never any real reason to not just use your damage spell of choice, a lot of options are completely pointless as well (Sound? Drain Skill?)
Quests are garbage. Almost every quest is the same as Skyrim's radiant quests. "Go talk to this person", "Go fetch me this item", "Go kill this guy". This is all you ever do.
The only things that make Morrowind stand out is its interesting lore and setting.

It IS legit. Nobody who has played the game for 500 hours will build a character that way, but it's a legitimate flaw that a new player (especially if you're starting Morrowind after playing Oblivion, like I did) can build their character in a way that makes the early game unplayable.
Yeah it's easy to start over as a Redguard swordsman born under the Warrior and have 80% hit chance at level 1, but when a game promises that you can build any kind of character you want, and all but a handful of builds are absolutely worthless, that's a flaw.

Do the first quest Caius offers you, it's another fighter's guild errand but it's pretty good.
Go to the Tribunal temple and join(and buy the intervention teleport spell), their first quest is a pilgrimage all around the world that you can get done bit by bit.

You've seen Hlaalu in Balmora, check out Ald'Rhun and the Telvanni coast and think about which house you like best.

Avoid the expansion content until you're a higher level though.

No there are only the three great houses. You can do everything else without it being mutally exclusive.

The temple in Balmora yes. That's the Tribunal or Dunmer temple. Imperial Cult temples are different and are usually located in the Imperial forts.
Oh and you can join the Imperial legion as well.

Daggerfall autists are a marvel to see. They got so buttmad when their glorified buggy dungeon crawler actually got turned into a handcrafted RPG, that they started spouting how Morrowind got dumbed down, because 90% of the copypaste got cut out. But somehow they forget that the amount of unique stuff increased tenfold.
