Is the Sega Dreamcast an overrated console?

It could be a successful 3DO, as in a console that would standardize consoles.

Everything in it is off the shelf, yet it's the perfect combination of cheap and powerful, that only happens during a full moon every 100 years.

For a 2 year lifespan it has an amazing game library. Sega were doing their best to try to stay in the console business but even their best wasn't enough.

If there was anything wrong with DC was it's arcade ports.
Daytona was shitty, Sega rally 2 was very shitty, VF3 was very very, very shitty...

Nah, it had some pretty good games

I don't know if you were around when it came out, but it was the easiest thing to pirate games on. CD became really cheap, there was no modding for the console, everyone just sat in IRC chat rooms and traded games.

All of my friends and I loved the console, not because it had an amazing library, but because we would find some random Japanese game on some random IRC channel, download it, and end up with gems like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Tokyo Bus and Bangi-O

Also Giga Wing 2 and Power Stone are some of the best 4 player games around.

It was probably the console that produced the most fun I've ever had with my friends.
