I liked Sonic R, it wasn't perfect, and it had it problems with turning, but for a short little racer game it wasn't that bad. I loved fucking around in the large levels and trying to unlock the character. An HD re-release with improved controls and a few more tracks would be great

1. The Sonic Collections were because Genesis emulation was pretty damn easy. Dreamcast emulation is comparatively difficult.

Depends on what you mean by "seven springs right next to each other."

There's some configurations where it's meant to make you build up speed for time travel. There's others where it's to account for several different angles and areas in which you can fall in from. There's others where they places several springs in between enemies as a nonlethal alternative to spikes, asking you to learn to avoid them by jumping in a certain way. The level design of the game overall is pretty damn good, it just has different priorities and methods of teaching/punishing than the core series did.

It's been years but I don't think that's correct. If you choose one of the regular (non-Super Sonic, non-robotl) characters, the opponents will be the other regular characters. If you pick Super Sonic or one of the robots (even Egg Robo), the opponents will be the other robots and Super Sonic. But I might be remembering wrong.

And to answer your question, Amy, Eggman, Egg Robo, and to a lesser extent Tails Doll are much slower than the other characters.
