But 5's gameplay was great and the series was never that scary. 1 was probably the first horror game I played to completion. You become an absolute walking destroyer pretty quickly

Depends on whether you like the control scheme or not, I personally really liked it. It was still pretty much the same game, but the dynamic camera made it feel fresh anyway. As for Mio and Mayu, I don't think they look like dolls any more than they did in the originals.

Just getting into it. I'm in the middle of 5 and then I'll probably go for 2 and 4 on Wii. Eventually I'll play the original trilogy but i don't have my PS2 around right now

Shibata said back in November 2015 that he was already thinking of Fatal Frame 6 on "new hardware" (meaning the Switch.) I imagine we'll get an official reveal in the next year or so.

It's so strange hearing people talk about missing the series. After 2005, there wasn't anything (unless you hacked your Wii) until 2012 with the Wiimake of 2 (sorry you Burgers didn't get it.) That was a drought. Since then, we had a 3DS spin off, a book, a manga, a movie and a full 5th game, as well as the first few games getting PSN re-releases in America on PS3. This is part of a revival and the most activity the series has ever had.

I know right, it really makes the world feel "real" when every single enemy has a personal backstory explaining their presence there. Took me a while to find out you could witness their deaths, so it was a great surprise

The other games have a menu called Ghost list where every ghost gets filed with a short description about them, both hostile and non-hostile ghosts (the ones who appear in the environments at specific moments when you approach and who you can snap pics of for points if you're quick). 5 ditched the list in favor of the full-blown death cutscenes, but only for the hostile ghosts, which come in greater variety than the previous games. There are still non-hostile ghosts, but you don't get their written backstories.

Started with 5 but emulated 1 and 2 last year, gonna emulate 3 on halloween.
Aside from the Tall Woman, 5 wasn't that scary but the atmosphere was good and kept me on edge the whole time. 1 was the scariest for me, broken neck girl was the worst.
