ATB was significant from the beginning with the "jump" command. Afterwards it allowed some strategy with charge mechanics in regards to character action order and utilizing animation action freeze.

And this is without taking into consideration how it allowed them to differentiate characters by speed. Obvious example being Locke vs Cyan.

I mean, you could just turn it into an FF7 worship thread. Maybe dread how much the remake is gonna suck, reminisce about playing it for the first time.

I personally didn't play it until the PSN release, and I made it up to Barret's solo boss, and then my PSP broke and I lost my original account information. I just started a new game yesterday via emulator, and even with zero nostalgia, this is probably my favorite Final Fantasy, compared to 6, 9, 10, 12, and 13. Writing, tone, characters, and atmosphere are all top-notch. I think my favorite battle system still belongs to 13 though.

Tifa would be so shit without her Power Soul.

Final Fantasy 8 was a good game.
