The first Knack only sold so well because PS4 owners literally had fuckall to play at launch. Knack 2 was a sequel no one asked for.

The problem is they need a mascot they actually own. Every single one of those is a 3rd party, and most aren't and were never from exclusive series anyway. Sony's internal dev team is largely a joke or relegated to niche properties that will never create the kind of across the board success you need to justify a mascot.

It might also just be too late. They're on their 4th generation, with the 5th being announced likely in a year or two, and they've had piss all luck with a mascot. Nostalgia for their early gens is already setting in, any mascot that could actually get a foot in the door would end up being too new.
