Out of curiosity, what kind of features do you think it could offer that aren't already offered by Sonic 3 Complete? The only thing that immediately comes to mind is widescreen support. Adding more stages a la the Sonic 2 port probably isn't feasible, regarding how huge of a game 3&K already is, unless you unlock them post-game or something. More characters also probably won't be a thing, since you already have Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Who else could you add? I dunno, am I missing anything?

Possibly new tee lopes music for MJ songs
More stable framerate
True 3D special stages
Non-shite multiplayer
Going super while having already offered regular emeralds for super emeralds instead of losing SS
Sonic appears surfing into the island in sonic-only mode
Alterte skin for sonic to play as metal sonic
A reference to the phantom ruby sitting in the start of angel island

That would pretty much trivialize the entire Sonic & Knuckles portion of the game.

If you never go into a special stage from mushroom hill onwards you never lose the emeralds and super sonic, but also don't get hyper sonic. Besides, everyone already knows where all the special rings are in mushroom hill anyway
