It doesn't need to sell a ton, it's a fucking cheap, low poly remake of a gameboy gsme, it doesn't cost that much to make most likely. As opposed to putting it on switch people would expect huge AAA budget with HD graphics and it would be a huge cost to nintendo to make. DIfference is that since it's a niche metroid game, it will never sell gangbusters so might as well shit out a cheap 2d game on 3ds for the dedicated fanbase instead of making a risky financial loss on Switch.

Switch will get metroid prime, (and even then nintendo will probably make little to no profit) but be patient as the install base for switch grows. If you are complaining about switch not having games it's your fault for buying one so soon
