Minecraft is more about building and crafting, Terraria is more about combat and boss fighting and getting items that you want to use in your playstyle, and as such there are a shitload more items in Terraria than there are Minecraft. While people have built some nice things in Terraria, building is not the main focus
The games are completely different playstyle-wise and mechanically

I don't really have a problem with the combat. Melee can get a little repetitive but combining it with stealth, discipline use, and having to feed keeps it fun. I appreciate action games with good combat but I really don't have a problem with it in VtMB.

They also had to use a really early version of the Source engine and weren't allowed to keep working on it after a certain point, Activision forced them to stop working and keep the finished game on hold until they could release it. It was also released on the same day as HL2 which killed sales, if they had waited a while they probably would've earned more money and kept polishing it.

Sorry for rambling a bit, VtMB is my favorite game although I can see why some people dislike it.
