Imo Hoenn and Sinnoh are by far the best region designs.
But Gen 3 gets flak for removing a shit ton of features, and Gen 4 is just so god awfully slow that I can't say its one of the best.
BW2 is probably the best game, but Unova is worst region imo and its honestly even worse in 2.

Overall I'd say Emerald, Crystal, and BW2 are the goat games, with Platinum a little behind because of how fucking slow it is.

Platinum is still slow too.

I played Diamond on release and don't remember it much, but I just recently picked up Platinum and it is still notable slower than the GB titles and Gen 5.

Battles are about the same speed as the 3DS games, but those atleast sorta have an excuse because it has actual animations

I've played up to platinum so far and Emerald is definitely the best of all those.

I disagree heavily.
Hoenn as a region isn't that great. The primary reason why I liked R/S/E so much is because I was a kid and they were my first games where I had a clue what I was doing. As more games came out, the flaws became more apparent, but I could still stomach them.
So the remake that fixed none of the problems like awful distribution of pokemon Zigzagoons and Wingulls being found on almost every single route in the game. OR/AS forced me to take the nostalgia goggles off. There was no charming gen 3 aesthetics. The game visually looked awful, because it took space designed for 2D and made it 3D. It changed areas that I as a huge gen 3fag did not want touched. Areas like Granite Cave and New Mauville being changed from dungeon like to two rooms.
I will give it some credit though. Dexnav was great and I do like one singular change, which was Scorched Slab. Everything else to failed in execution, like flying around on Latis meant being forced to watch the cutscene for it every time and in reality was a lot slower than just flying. Going full lorefag for the game to try and justify it's existence and changes only left that much worse of a taste in my mouth. Zinnia's bullshit almost made me set down the game and if I didn't know Deoxys was at the end I probably would have.

Personally, it ruined gen 3 for me, I can't muster the effort to replay Ruby or Emerald again because of how draining OR was, and I will never forgive them for it.

Do people seriously have nostalgia for gen 3? The original games were shit. Emerald added nothing of great significance besides Battle Frontier. Which got axed in the Gen 3 remakes, which were shit aside from DexNav.

All in a game that upon its release, locked the players out of nearly half of the existing pokemon in the franchise. What's in it to like? A bunch of shit "abilities"? EVs? Shitmons? Gen 4fags can at least claim the holy grail of Phys / Spec split amongst their heap of crap.

Pokemon's a multiplayer-based game. HGSS and Platinum are the best, not because of shit like rematches or Kanto, but because it was a natural expansion to how Pokemon showcases friendly communications and interactivity. Gen V was a step down in every way.

The story isn't as good as Sky's but the gameplay is arguably the best in the series. It's probably the most difficult too, the game will fucking kick your ass if you even think of entering a dungeon unprepared. The game starts off a bit slow and has some pacing issues, but overall I think it's a great game. And the music is fucking elder god tier as always with PMD.

Gen VI was a close second for online and multiplayer due to the PSS, but cross-compatibility with XY was limited despite Platinum/HGSS or even BW/BW2 being compatible with each other. ORAS on its own holds up due to all the additions XY offered along with Bases and Buzznav (which is mostly flavortext but is Record Mixing made much better) but the fact that it can't do the Maison with XY or use any team they please against an XY trainer is a huge blow.
