The Sega Dreamcast launched 18 years ago.
Say something nice to her.
>>

Nice framerates, Dreamcast.
>>
I still love her. All the fighting games, arcade ports, and creative overbudget japanese games. There will never be another console like it.
>>
>>389745376
I wanna display that bottle in my house.
>>
E.G.G. was a cool game. I liked it.
>>
She's finally old enough to post on 4chan!

The playstation launched 22 years ago.

I'm planning on buying one and get Shenmue.
This game's been tempting me for too long now. HUZZAH!
>>
>>389745376
I think its a testament to its library that pretty much all good games it had got ported to other systems over the years.

It was also way ahead of its time. Proper netplay, insane shenanigans with those VMUs and actual VGA input WHICH EVEN THE PS2 THAT CAME OUT LATER DID NOT GET IM STILL MAD
>>
It was a better console than the PS2. Not as good as the xbox.
>>
Love me some Powerstone
>>
>>389745798
>It was also way ahead of its time. Proper netplay

How is getting shit computers had had for many, many years already being "way ahead of it's time".
>>
Great system.
Great arcade ports.
Great shmups.
Great Homebrews.
>>
>>389745376
reminder that cd-r quality has dropped significantly over the years and if you play newly burnt CD-R's now on Dreamcast you will kill your drive laser
>>
>>389746036
Because it was on a console. Duh.

It also had crossplay with PC and had keyboard/mouse support so you could play Quake3 against PC people.
>>
>>389745376

>has more 60fps games than the ps4

What did Sega mean by this?

It died too early but because of that it also had only like 3 or 4 good games. Sonic Adventure was unironically terrible.

What made it fail exactly? I don't understand.
This console comes out, it's got all sorts of crazy stuff about it, it's made by god damn SEGA, it follows up un the Genesis/Megadrive, is objectively better than its concurrents and NO ONE gives a shit.
Sony releases the PS2 and goes "IT RUNS DVDs GUYS" and everyone goes nuts.
The Dreamcast had a hard life.

I think the link address is filtered for some reason. Happy 9/9/99+9+9. nulldc is on the iso zone and the isos are on emuparadise
Go play some games, faggots
>>
>>389746168
>IT RUNS DVDs GUYS
The thing is though is that is most of what did it, 2000 was a different time where you didn't own twenty different devices that could play DVDs. The PS2 was a games console that could also play DVDs that wasn't $700, some people just bought them to play movies on. The same thing happened with the PS3 and Blu Ray players, even with the PS3's ridiculous price it was more affordable than getting the player itself.
>>
>>389746168
>What made it fail exactly? I don't understand.

Real answer? No games. Nobody cared about SEGA arcade ports anymore, they wanted the cinematic stuff the Playstation had introduced the market to.
>>
>>389746168
it didn't exactly fail, dreamcast sold well. the problem was that Sega couldn't financially support it further. they already dug a hole too dip after saturn, 32x, and blowing all their money on shenmue.
>>
>>389746168
Sony got heavy momentum from the PS1, EA refused to release its sports games on the Dreamcast because they wanted to force Sega to drop their own sports franchises and people didnt want to commit to Sega after all their blunders after the Megadrive.

The biggest issue was that Sega tanked themselves thanks to their past fuckups.
Also with the budget they used on Shenmue they couldve made like 20 smaller scale Dreamcast games easily, probably more.
>>
Still have my Dreamcast from launch hooked up and ready to go. Might play some PSO later.
>>
>>389746595
it wasnt all that, DVD players got really cheap early into the PS2s lifetime. at most kids tricked their parents with it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_player
>By the end of 2000, players were available for under $100 at discount retailers. In 2003 players became available for under $50.

And dont forget that the PS3 was shitting itself sales wise.
>>
I think my Dreamcast is dying. It sometimes plays games but then randomly during gameplay it sends me back to the home menu.

DC > GC > xbox/ps2

>The same thing happened with the PS3 and Blu Ray players, even with the PS3's ridiculous price it was more affordable than getting the player itself.

The reason for this was price fixing by Sony. Sony owned bluray and controlled all the manufacturing of the bluray players. Yes, other companies built players but under license from Sony and that license came with some price stipulations that would make the PS3 seem less like the enormous ripoff it was. Within 6 months of the release of the PS3 the price of bluray players had dropped to less than half the price of the PS3 now that the price fixing condition had expired and 3rd party bluray manufacturers were allowed to charge reasonable prices.

it's going to be shit. it's a spinoff game and it's they're tying a railgun anime crossover to it.

virtual on x railgun, ps4 and vita, 2018 release date
>>
>>389748819
I don't give a shit about the story though, as long as they mess with the gameplay it'll be fine
>>
>>389748986
last virtual on spinoff we got was marz and look how that turned out
>>
The Dreamcast was just filler while the better consoles were being made.

Once they were out, it was no longer needed.
>>
>>389749016
Didn't know it existed, I guess they could ruin it if try hard enough.
>>
>>389745376
You were a fragile faulty mess but wacky races and hydro thunder are some of the best games ever so I forgive you.

This. Sega failed, not the Dreamcast. Nothing was going to take the #1 spot from PS2 hype train. Had the DC lived, it would have been the number 2 console that gen, and Xbox would have been D.O.A. We'd be living in a better future.
>>
So...Dreamcast-tan is finally old enough huh?
