The guy basically took his mod that he made on Arma 3 called battle royale and turned it into a standalone title (basically the same thing Dean did with DayZ, only far more successful). A lot of people just liked the group gunfights and shit and the mechanics of a map that grows smaller and smaller forcing the groups to come together.

It kind of eliminates one of DayZ's primary problems if you're looking for pvp, that being people who fuck about on the coast or jerk off in some corner loot hoarding rather than looking for a fight in the north, but instead you lose the adrenaline because it's all pvp all the time, no 30-45 minutes of moving around the map getting gear, seeing a group of people and shitting yourself because you could lose everything or gain everything in the blink of an eye.

tl;dr, it's for the people who didn't like the downtime period between fights in dayz

I think the popularity of this shit is the biggest red flag that I'm just too fucking old for video games now. The concept of paying $30 for an unfinished game has disgusted me for a while, but I guess people don't care anymore. Selling fucking loot crates for real human currency inside your incomplete game is some god tier jewry that even Valve hasn't reached. The game itself is a literal carbon copy of many other games. I get that this dude is the "pioneer" of these games (ignoring the fact that the idea is old as fuck and has been explored in all other media repeatedly), but it's still mindblowing people will buy a new game when it's identical to all the others. The gameplay, from what I've seen, is about 10 minutes of set up and then whether you live or not depends heavily on whether the RNGods were in your favor and gave you an okay gun. I'm glad you kids are having fun because I sure the fuck don't anymore, but I'm worried for video games as a whole. One of the only "bad" things about Terraria is that the specific alternate fight styles (like beemancer, the magic that lets you cursor around a ball, vilethorn, throwing stars/daggers, and several others) is that there's almost always no end-game version of them, and you're usually "stuck" with a more normal attack if you want end-game equips.

Chinks will never upload raws because it "might hurt the creator".
And Koreans say fuck everyone else and only for koreans (Example LWND uploads scans of downscaled and ran trough a blur filter and only will share the original raws to KOREAN translators).

Mexican Scanners upload better an proper raws but they rarely do it and wont upload them to sadpanda.
English, Japanese Scanners are the only that do it correctly and put some effort on it.
Then there is the Japanese book site rips which are bad quality too (See pop9).

I don't know if pub was specifically made with this in mind, but I know that with twitch being a big thing now people want their game to be "fun to watch" so that it has a big streaming presence. I vaguely recall something of this sort being said by the guys behind pubg but I could be wrong.

Wizards of the coast is making a new online mtg game and they've explicitly stated they want it to be one of the biggest followings on twitch, because that's how you get people interested in stuff nowadays, or at least that's what think tanks say.

Well I have limited knowledge in what people care about watching, but TF2 and mtg are two games I play that I've seen people talk about it a fair amount.

TF2 is (relatively) easy to understand in that "red people fight blu people and killing is good" and rocket/sticky jumping or quickscopes are nice to look at but it's sometimes hard to understand the flow of a match and who's actually winning or what's really going on.

Mtg has a lot of rules, hundreds or maybe even thousands, but most of those are just innate things you just kind of know after playing the game once or twice and a lot of others are extreme niche cases. It's easy to understand that "more cards = better" most of the time, but knowing the power of them and their abilities can be confusing to a casual observer. The game itself, being a paper tcg, isn't exactly thrilling to watch unless you have a vested interest in the people or decks being played, so adding in a bunch of fancy graphics, sound effects, and voice acting are there to amp it up a bit.
