consoles were nice when you could just turn them on and play a game. PS3 and 360 ruined console gaming with their forced system menu bullshit.

There are tech demos from ten years ago that look better than games do these days.

I do. Flex and PhysX are so poorly optimised it's not even viable to put it in anything. Grass and light shafts for ghost recon and turning on gibs in killing floor 2 just isn't possible unless you have a 1080 or a 1080ti. essentially forcing people to upgrade if they want muh silky smooth experience.

Consoles up the Dreamcast were home arcade machines. They each had very different hardware from one another, in order to properly run specific types of games better.

After the Dreamcast, consoles became budget gaming PCs. By having a unified architecture and mass-produced parts, it's possible to make a machine capable of running games better than a computer made with the same budget. Also, it's accessible and automated, so even the dumbest people could play video games.

There is nothing objectively wrong with consoles. And stop posting the water render memewebms, the reason games don't use that is because resources go into things players will look at.
