Putting the "kefkas the best villain XD" meme aside, I think the final tower boss, with angel Kefka descending at the top, was the coolest boss design in the series.

I wonder what's the rationale behind his design? It feels very out of place. One is metallic and human. The other is a tree.

Anima is just FFX's 'Ultimate Summon', and represents the concept of Anima which is a living energy that can be found in everything, kind of like Pyreflies.
It has a second meaning as the Masculine feelings in a Woman, or Love.

I'm not sure if Garland, or FF1 has enough of a plot to really mean anything.
Maybe its simply representative of the Monomyth cycle and to break out of it you have to establish an order into your life.

5 & 6's story are mostly about overcoming Nihilism, and 6 leans more towards the Nihilism inflicted by pointless and harmful conflict and conquest. Kefka being an almost literal avatar of War's Insanity.

4 is about overcoming Hatred and learning forgiveness for yourself and others, the importance of family. Zemus being the hatred for your absentee father, Zeromus representing hate itself. Keep in mind that long-distance brain washing is Zemus's main power, Hate makes you behave in terrible ways and do terrible things to the people you love.
Golbez is basically a metaphoric stand-in for Kain, you hate Golbez for the things hes done, but in the end he's your brother acting off of hatred. You could literally change every instance of Light and Dark in that game to Love and Hate.

I always assumed the "Knights" were other 'Weapons" of the planet.
Though that is probably wrong because Materia contains the knowledge of the ancients. So it would have to be knowledge that the Ancients possessed, maybe the proper way to rule(with a round table) or just their ultimate magic.
