I started with X4 and think Classic is one of the stronger series due to their relative simplicity. There's no mechanics like wall jumping and dashing trivializing level design, they're basically just run n' guns with solid as fuck traditional platforming. X is way more hit and miss IMO and Inti Creates didn't do as good with the level design in Zero and ZX IMO. Odd, considering how they knocked it out of the park with Megaman 9.
