I don't think it's anything alike aside from being in the same genre. Sound, not similar at all. Music, not similar at all. Graphics, everything in PoE looks sort of cheap. Setting, it's similar at a glance, but the hodgepodge of bandits and rock golems and statues and soldiers are nothing like the cohesive armies of darkness employed by diablo. Matt Uelmen is a genius.

I miss gear and systems that aren't necessarily "complicated" but at least have depth and require some trial and error. PoE's endgame needs some overhauling, the mapping/atlas is a crappy meta and sextants are fucking garbage. D3 is a tremendous failure on all accounts, and people seem to forget that it was initially built with microtransactions in mind and had a content drought for ~a year before Casual of Souls came out.

Playing as a ranger for the very first time and then meeting the Butcher was pants-shittingly intense.

Also liked how some quests were randomized. For example, sometimes you'd start a new game and the fountain would be completely fucked up, causing you to have to go down into the water supply and clear out the demons that are shitting into it

Sacred 2 had a dude that with a particular build could become permanently invis, and still cast spells while invis like raise skelebro and skele tower
I'd play any of these games that lets me do cheesy shit like that, and PoE was full of it initially(trap, mine + summon specter + RF zombro from solaris temple) but they keep nerfing it
D3 is trash for forced online and on first release it of course it had no servers here

I miss it too, sure I can go back and play it, but I played it to death. I did play a lot of D3 for a few months, but it lost it's charm pretty quick. I did recently start playing Sacred for the first time and it's kinda similar to Diablo 2, been enjoying it quite a bit.
