It was the first bog one in the states, I think only Phantasia got released over here before. There was a big push for it on the gamecube, and it ended up being most people's first tales game so they remember it fondly. That said, its still a very good game all around.

It was most likely a lot of people's first Tales game, especially all the kids with a GC. It also has the best girl in the series.

Destiny is better though.

of course it pales in comparison to some of the later entries, but i think as an early 3D tales game the combat feels okay, and the story isn't groundbreaking in any way but maybe that's part of its charm (helped by nostalgia). It's not too far from your standard fare but has it's own twists and in my opinion a very good length.

The story is pretty good once you look at what each party member dealt with on a personal scale.

and so on.

The combat is outdated but still fun if you think of it as a fighting game on a 3d plane, at least that's why I liked it alot back then.
Symphonia is my favorite game by far, it does have problems too but I still really like it because no other tales game has worked that grand of a scale.(for example choosing who Lloyd ends up with for all the waifufags)

Tales of Symphonia is the FF7 of the franchise, overrated but still great and worth playing.

Charming characters, a decent story by Tales of standards, a metric shit ton of content, and a solid if dated transition for the series into 3D that created a lot of the mechanics and tropes we take for granted in the series today.

Is some of it's appeal nostalgia? Sure, but I don't see anything wrong with that.That same criticism could be lobbed at Ocarina of Time, but no one would argue that it's not a good game despite it being objectively improved upon by it's sequels in terms of gameplay mechanics.

Had to get a fruit for the kid's sick mom, and had to do a long series of events to guide fish and pigs and falcons around to various tasks that eventually led to you getting the fruit. If you didn't know what you were doing it could be massively annoying, and it came at a time when the game was cranking up in seriousness (since you were getting into the village to get something you needed for Colette).

Mind you, I still enjoy the place actually, the puzzles are well thought out and make you actually think about movement and consequences, and it never feels overly punishing. And the music is nice along the way so that helps.

Anise is absolutely the worst character. She is a one dimensional character: "I act nice, but I'm manipulative" and doesn't really add ANYTHING to the story. Ion died because Tear ate a shitton of miasma at one point, and it was killing her. Ion had a short life expectancy and had lived his entire life as a lie, so he wanted to do something of his own volition, and not as Ion's replica.

Arietta died because Anise led the group into the trap that cause Ion to sacrifice himself for Tear, and Anise killed her because otherwise Arietta would have just kept coming.

I just want a new tales game with a new cel-shaded look like Vesperia.

These "new" have all looked like shit. I wanna go back to the LMBS from Vesperia with added artes, etc.

I can't believe there are people that think Symphonia has good writing, a good plot, and good characters.

If you had played the Tales games leading up to it, ToS was bored and tired as shit. Phantasia and Eternia already had pretty much the exact same plot, but then they just superimposed some of Final Fantasy X's plot and characterization over top to try and pretend it was something different.

Isn't Vesperia known as the best Tales Of game? Which it has gotten so out of control in popularity, that Yuri is banned from Tales Of polls in Japan.

Vesperia's combat was amazing, and I even found Karol to be pretty fun to play. Characters were likable, decent story, and a nice world.
I would actually be happy if they released a Vesperia PS4 edition for another easy cash grab. Give me more areas to explore, more bosses to fight, and I'll play through it again.

I would ask for another character to play as, but I feel like a party of 10 would be out of control. Nan is the only character I can think of that can be playable anyway. Everyone else would be too out of place.

it's because they reuse the same game engine as xillia but make minor alternations to save money. I mean xillia and berseria are not too different from each other if you compare level design and how much they recycle enemy and NPC animations

The problem with Vesperia is that the enhanced version was never released outside Japan, and since it added so much to the main plotline, plus two fully playable characters, plus additional lore details in sidequests, plus rewriting chunks of the fucked up last third of the game, NOT having that stateside has left us with the original version, which was good up until the last ten hours and then went to shitsville.

Symphonia on the other hand had the iffy parts at the verrrry beginning, and then once it decided to go offroad, the ride never ended (save for one speed bump at Ymir Forest).

I want another enchanced Vesperia with Duke as a new character, more arena stuff, more artes, new mystic arte for everyone, and a quick save option. Release for both ps4 and PC.
