I want to play a somewhat quick game (under 20 hours).
I've never played a platformer or metroidvania, can you guys recommend what I should start with?
Ori should be fine. Nice and colorful and not too hard (except some annoying platforming sections). I finished it with 100% completion in about 13 hours on my first run.
I enjoyed Hollow Knight more, but it's pretty long 30-50ish hours, depending on your pace and if you're going for 100% or not.

Thanks anon!

How is that possible?
Grab any 8- or 16-bit Super Mario game, ASAP!

Or you could start with the classic and just play Super Metroid itself. It's pretty short too, I think 9 hours or so.

I've played Mario way back in the day, so I lied to you anon
I'm sorry
but other than that I think maybe a Kirby game and thats about it

How about good old-school survival horror games? The first three Resident Evil and Silent Hill games can be easily beat under 10 hours each, and in a fraction of that once you know what you're doing. Not to mention they got tons of replay value.
Steam has the HD port of the superb Resident Evil Remake, which is a fine starting point as it is a full-blown remake of RE1.
Otherwise, you can just emulate OG PS1 versions of RE1-3.
Same thing with Silent Hill 1, which is the one you wanna start with.
SH2-4 were PS2 games that also got fine PC ports back in the days, which aren't really available anywhere anymore.
Thus, here's the latest SH PC Guide, to help you run them smooth on modern PCs + the DL links :

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The "sh2proxy" is a all-in-one fix, that works as a no-cd crack as well. It is included in the pack.
If you use the NEW WS-fix mentioned in the guide, you can use the sh2proxy's EXE as the no-cd crack!
In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.
If SH3 runs like shit even on a strong PC, check and lower the Rendering Resolution setting.
I'd suggest playing all of these on Normal difficulty at first, with the original control scheme.

SH is my favorite series, but you're really pushing it posting it in this thread, anon.
>>389630834
Damn anon, I appreciate the work you put into this.
Too bad I'm a pussy and horror games seem unappealing to me.
Have a good week though

Why? They're great games and can be finished in a single evening.

Silent Hill games, especially the cult-hit of SH2, have for long worked as gateway games for people like you, as their spooks are mostly atmospheric and "calm", instead of smashing you with endless jumpscares and gore gallons. Not to mention the fact that there's so much to appreciate in these games, like the superb visuals, OSTs, and the puzzles.
From SH2 forward, the series even has split its difficulty into two separated options; Action and Puzzles. So if you think fighting and dodging scary monstrosities in dark corridors isn't quite your thing, you could play on Easy action mode, and crank up Puzzles for some almond-activating challenge instead.

Are you Venture Beat writer?
>metroidvania
Start with a Castlevania or a Metroid you fucker.
Buy Gungrave for the Ps2. You can finish it under 1 hour.
