At the beginning of Half-Life 2, why was everyone so unfazed with Gordon literally appearing out of thin air? Barney, Kleiner and Eli all acted like Gordon just had a longer than usual bathroom break. No one bothered to ask where he was or what he did - just told him to jump into his HEV suit, which Kleiner kept for no apparent reason, and get back to work.
>>
Eli was the one that hired gordon from Gman, Gordo's contractor.
Eli informed Kleiner and Kleiner barney that you were coming.
>>
>barney JUST SO HAPPENED to see you get off that train
>alyx JUST SO HAPPENED to run into gordon and save him in that random apartment complext
>they JUST SO HAPPENED to be right next to kleiner's lab which barney JUST SO HAPPENED to also be on his way to at that exact moment

why do people overlook this shit?
>>
>>389579491
I never thought HL2's story was all that amazing even when it was first released. I think people were more marveled at the physics engine and gravity gun to notice how silly it was.
>>
>>389579491
>bitching about JUST SO HAPPENED in half-life
what do you think the g-man does all day?
>>
>Half Life 2 has shitty writing, shitty characters ( Breen is interesting from time to time ) and a shitty overall story

I already knew that though.
>>
>>389578704

Team science was very aware of Gordon's situation. As was team Combine.
>>
Just played through Portal 1 and 2, again.
Why did Valve stop making games?
Weathly and Cave Johnson were literally perfect in the second game
>>
>>389579491
G-man put him on that train so that Barney would find him.
Alyx was actively looking for Gordon at that point.
Again, G-man put you close to Kleiner's lab so that you could reach it.
>>
>>389580257
>DUDE GMAN LMAO

more like asspullman. you cant use the g-man to justify lazy writing
>>
>>389580141
Because steam makes more money on it's own than putting effort into games ever could.

HL2 is better than anything you'll ever make, you fucking asslick.

>HL2 is better than anything you'll ever make

wow what a truly splendid argument
>>
>>389581028

>let's see you do it!

So now I cannot criticize a professional athlete doing a shit job because I couldn't do a better job? I can't criticize a chef fucking up my meal because I am not a chef? I can't say " What an ugly painting! " because I don't paint?

C'mon. I know criticism is often lazy, but you are off base.
>>
>>389578704
shit writing
>>
>>389580362
considering thats his whole purpose...

yes, you can
>>
What's wrong with the G-Man? How is it lazy writing? I find the questions that the G-Man raises to be fascinating and it doesn't impact the gameplay at all. As far as I'm concerned the Half-Life story is basically the perfect video game story. Really interesting and mysterious without being too in your face
>>
>>389579491
Maybe because it's a fucking video game
>>
Half-Life never had a good story, I didn't agree with that praise even at the time (all the short scripted events and somewhat realistic environments were pretty cool when HL1 was released I guess, but still). Good shooters anyway.
>>
>>389579491
>unfinished game series has plotholes
>>
>>389581581
>a shittily written asspull character is perfectly fine as long as he's intentionally shitty!

lets face it, valve can't write for shit. both half life 1 and half life 2 both had terrible writing, they are just revered for their ingenuity
>>
>>389581894
hl1 had great writing you pleb
>>
>half life writing is bad
Holy shit, you may be the first person to realize this OP!
>>
>>389582472
lol, did it? a fucking 10 year old could have written HL1.

>the collective US army decide to mow down innocent scientists out of petty anger and revenge because one of them may have inadvertently caused a multidimensional disaster

seriously who the fuck writes this garbage
>>
>>389582472
HL1 has literally the same story as Doom

well, if you truly believe what you just wrote, then you've either never played half life and just lurked abd shitposted on 4chan in hl threads or you'rnote a retard.
first, not the collectice us army. it was just a special division of the marines called the hazardous environment combat unit.
the main goal was to condemn the incident. the higher ups of black mesa and the government knew about aliens/alien soldiers and so on. so it's logical to kill everyone who knows of these beings, considering the government does shit like this irl at area 51 for example, to not leak information.
go back to your anime trash or something. the HL1 story/lore is pretty solid.
>>
Valve probably wrote themselves into a corner with Episode 3 story which probably sounded like poor fan fiction and decided to drop it altogether to not look like idiots.
>>
>>389583072
Oh please god not this jew hack
TFA is one of the worst things to happen to the world
>>
>>389578704
Half life 2 is a bad game. Same reason for some reason gordon is the messiah in this game when all he did in the first game was shoot marines and aliens while failing to save anyone or really accomplish anything besides shoot a big alien in the land of shitty platforming
>>
We know Breen is aware of G Man, but, are the Combine?
>>
>>389583840
Disney and the majority of the western world disagrees
>>
>>389583142
Gordon will have his spotlight stolen by Alyx and will also be ambiguously gay for Barney
>>
>>389578704
I can't say anything particular about people's reaction on Freeman's appearance, but HEV suit is not just signature piece of clothing, it's damn good armor. There is no reason to throw something like this away, especially since Kleiner also decided to tinker with it in free time (which gave HEV ability to sprint, zoom and use combine chargers. Probably some other stuff too, but since Gordon never does science, we don't know. Probably reinforced armor to be able to survive impact of impulse sphere too).

Does the name Gordon Freeman have any connection to Morgan Freeman?
>>
>>389578704

Eli already knew who G-Man was and he expected him to come back someday, also G-Man literally threw Gordon right next to the Kleiner's Lab.

Morrowind
Deus Ex
System Shock 2

They don't even make the art assets anymore. All those are just taken from the community.

All the writers, artists, developers, designers, etc. who actually make games quit or were fired and were replaced by caretakers who make sure steam runs properly.
>>
>>389578829
HOLY SHIT
>>
>>389582631
you mean the government wouldn't do something like this if one of their secret labs accidentally open up a portal to another world?
>>
>>389583762
What the hell are you talking about? Episode Three's story is great as is.

The problem was on the tech side, as they clearly got too ambitious with what they wanted to show. All that stuff about the Borealis blinking in and out of space, not to mention figuring out how to properly display the Combine Dyson sphere, isn't really feasible even with modern tech.

>isn't really feasible even with modern tech.

Stop talking out of your ass. you can do whatever you goddamn want with computer-generated imagery. fucking Bioshock Infinite did time and dimensional travel and that game was casualized garbage.
>>
>>389587517
well all those teleportation and G-Man sequences in 2 did look pretty advanced for its time so maybe they could have done something similar with the Borealis
as for the dyson sphere that's easy, just make a big model of a city with low polygon buildings covering a sun and that's it
>>
>>389587774
that game also came out in 2013, 6 years after episode 2 and a few months before the 8th gen of consoles took off
also those sequences didn't last longer than 3-5 seconds
>>
>>389588021
If anything, Valve proven they can do whatever they want, if they bend their minds to do it. Its simply a matter of them giving up - the script may have been ambitious, but it was also the only thing that would live up to the hype.
>>
>>389588021
Bioshock Infinite was a cobbled together mess that only saw the light of day because 2K wanted some of their investment back after 5-6 years of development hell

Valve used to be a proper game developer with genuine talent, they pioneered and introduced new tech in Source with EP1 & 2, 3 would've been no different if their plans didn't go off the rails
>>
>>389585601
But why?

Try to name 3 good things about hl2 besides music.
>>
>>389578704
I don't really understand how Barney even recognized you. If I saw someone at a glance who looked a lot like a long lost friend from like 20 years ago who's supposed to be dead I would have to do a double take and check to make sure. Barney knows what's going on and has a plan the moment he sees you.
>>
>>389589146
Physics puzzles were unique back in the day and still pretty neat now.
Minimal use of scene changes, it pretty much felt like a single journey rather than several smaller ones.
Pacing.

>>389589641
I assume he saw you wandering through the station and rushed over to nab you at the checkpoint.
