I think 5 is the best for the moment but it's not heads and shoulders above the others, that could change with a re-release that fixes some of its flaws though, which I expect it will get. I should really play 1 and 2 one of these days, but I still have some other MegaTen games I'm a bit more interested in to play.

I know people are giving DSJ a lot of flak, and deservedly so, but I do have to say that ATLUS's re-releases are often pretty good in my opinion. Maniax and Golden, despite having Marie, were both pretty big steps up form their vanilla games and I've heard nothing but good things about the Radinat Historia re-release. DSJ looks like it's going to be a miss, but I'm glad that ATLUS are at least putting some effort into milking every game they've ever made seeing as they're clearly intent on doing it no matter what.

I am currently at Shidos castle and can't be assed to pick it up again. Should I bother finishing it?

Persona 3 has a better story cause of it's darker tone, but it has the worst gameplay out of the 3 Personas I've played. Persona 4 is in the middle with having better gameplay, but a worse overall story, though I find the girls to be excellent. Persona 5 is the best overall experience because dungeon crawling isn't as much of a chore and the wonderfully crafted OST blends nicely. Persona 5's story is okay, better than Persona 4's, but not as good as Persona 3. Persona 5 is my overall favorite because it's not severely lacking in any department, so it gives off the best experience.
I haven't played P1 or P2 due to the dated gameplay, and I'm just not a fan of dungeon crawlers in general. I like Persona cause it's casual and has those visual novel elements that attract people who wouldn't go near JRPGs.

Well I play these games for demon management, battle system, visuals, and story character.
I mean if I only care about the plot and cast I rather watch youtube so I can skip the worst part of the game, which is the game itself.

Fuck NO. The reason P3/4/ and 5 struggle so much in the story department is because the calendar system is a direct detriment to the stories pacing. All you end up with is short burst of story followed by huge swaths of nothing that grind the game to a halt. Also in the case of P1 it can't be done simply because it has 2 independent story lines.
