Combat is fun, there's a lot of weapons and playstyles available, though it's fairly easy on the normal difficulty. If you want to cheese almost everything in the game, you can resort to Elder Scrolls Stealth Archer and just hide in the bushes all day.

it's pretty fun. fighting humans really sucks but fighting the machines is really great. You have whole bunch of different weapons that server meaningfully different purposes. the machines have a good bit of variety and targeting the different components adds some amount of strategy to how you approach. The melee combat does feel really inconsistent and bad overall tho. The open world structure in terms of quests/side quests/activities etc is like a hybrid of witcher and far cry. it's fun if you are in the mood for that, if not then avoid.

There are a variety of mods available in the game. More are planning to be added, but so far there's at least one extra part for each part of the gun that can be modified with some exceptions. There are some objectively better options to choose from, but from the testing I've done the actual improvements of some mods are imperceptible in gameplay compared to "worse" mods so really a lot of it comes down to aesthetic. Unless of course you decide "Fuck my AK stock and dust cover and fuck my 30 round GL23 magazine I'd rather load the gun bullet by bullet and use my slavic destructive device as a single shot gun."

One thing I never understood in all the gameplay videos of this I watched: You're only using the mouse for attacks, right? So how do you tell your dude to hit from above or from the side or when to do a poke or a smash?

Lateral swings happen by clicking and holding, overhead attacks is a doubleclick + hold, and you can stab by holding alt while clicking.

Mouse movement also controls facing, so you can give swings extra momentum by turning in the same direction as you swing.
