It's the best Doom after 1.
>>
>>389565507
I don't get it, what's different about this?
>>
>>389566550
Seems like a smoother and faster source port of Doom 64 for PC
>>
>>389565507
>This project is a full re-make and "port" of Doom 64 for the Nintendo 64 to the GZDoom engine.
>The goal of the project is be mostly accurate to the original game as well as add very minor improvements for that extra bit of polish.
>Think of this mod as being a remastered or enhanced version of Doom 64 for GZDoom.
>We have Doom 64 EX, Doom 64 Absolution TC, GZDoom64, and Brutal Doom 64. Why you ask?
>I was personally dissatisfied with the quality of the GZDoom64 project, and Brutal Doom 64 (while it is a great improvement) is along the same lines but changes too much and deviates from the original Doom 64 experience.
>And thus, this project was born.
>DISCLAIMER: This project will NEVER be completely faithful or accurate to the original game. If you absolutely must have accuracy, use Doom 64 EX instead.

tl;dr
>a new mod/"port" of Doom 64 on pc
>creator made it cause he didn't like the previous pc versions/"ports"
>creator himself claims Doom 64 EX is better

Basically a huge waste of time
>>
>>389564779
most underrated N64 game after Quake II which was fucking AWESOME on N64
>>
>>389564779
the secret level is INSANELY hard
>>
>>389564779
I played through this recently with that one PC 'port'. It really is a great game.
>>
D64 had the best Hell levels in the entire series.
>>
>>389567262
>>creator himself claims Doom 64 EX is better
Except he didn't. He just said EX is more accurate. Accurate =/= better
>>
>>389567282
Quake 2 was on 64?!
Man, how could these games be so rare. I had around 30 games, a lot of shovelware, but never heard about quake, starcraft or doom, even after playing them on pc at their time

This has always been my favorite doom - still fire up the 64 every couple of years to play it
>>
>>389567537
I'd agree with you if the creator himself didn't also say "The goal of the project is be mostly accurate to the original game" and criticized other "ports" for "deviating to much from the original Doom 64 experience"
He wants his port to be most accurate, with just minor improvements, but claims his project won't EVER be as accurate as Doom 64 EX.
So from his own words, with accuracy as the goal, Doom 64 EX is better and will always be better than his own project.

>inb4 yeah but he will add minor improvements
so does Doom 64 EX

It worked in part because it wasn't technically a port. It had the same core gameplay, but with all-new (or at least "remade") levels. Plus it had split-screen 4 player, which was the best part.

This one is so different.
On any other Doom game the atmosphere is of kicking ass in hell and blowing shit up as if you were on an iron maiden video or something.
But 64 has such a creepy feel and music, it's almost cathartic.
It would fuck me up so much as a kid I just never finished it.

Best soundtrack in the series. Most satisfying shotgun in the series. That's all that matters to me.
>>
>>389569607
Old guy here.

Doom is fucking TERRIFYING. The CLANG of the Cyberdemon's hooves STILL makes me nervous.

play e2m6 in dosbox with the controls. that maze section has very use of lighting and sound to create a very suspenseful mood

That's not what I meant.
Doom 1 and 2 can be scary but also exhilarating.
64 kinda missed the mark on that and ended up just scary as fuck.
>>
>>389570217
He sayd the sound of it makes him nervous, not that he can't kill it

The scaryness factor has a lot to do with the times the games were released, i can see why for todays standars Doom 1 and 2 wouldnt be scary, when they came out you can be sure as fuck they were on the same level of pants-shitting scaryness of Silent Hill thanks to its visuals.

i think both Doom 64, 3 and Nu-Doom broke the balance between tense/scary and kickass.
>>
>>389570496
Why are you getting so upset over this anon's opinion on Doom?

What is the server tool called i get a compact list of all modifications available. i dont mean the one i need to register in nor the one who has like 4 servers active nor the one who has only one game mod available. I dont remember its name
>>
>>389567262
If you read the original thread, you'd know about the upcoming levels and content he's also working on.
So, it's more than a "port", that doesn't fuck up, by adding different textures or enemies not planned for the original levels.
>>
>>389564779
>This game is amazing

it's fucking terrible.

>>389570624
>i can see why for todays standars Doom 1 and 2 wouldnt be scary

the games weren't meant to be 'scary', you dribbling tard.

Nice shit taste, fag.
>>
>>389567064
Not really a source port, but rather a TC for Gzdoom, that is Doom 64 itself or something.
Basically, an alternative for Doom 64 EX, in case that one is too hard to settle for some people.
>>
>>389571161
Doom 64 EX does the same, doesn't add shit not planned in the original levels

>an alternative for Doom 64 EX, in case that one is too hard to settle for some people.
After making your own WAD from a Doom 64 rom(anyone who has played Doom 64 originally is old and intelligent enough to handle some very basic file copy and pasting, and whoever only emulated Doom 64 can do the same as well), there is literally nothing to settle, out of the box it plays just like the original except KB/M controls.

These are the plans from the author, for what he wants to do with it.
His version of the game was even used to be playable with mods, with special spawn keys being added to some items, for mods to take advantage of.

EX.

>millennial
Not a reasonably insult since many Millennials played Doom on release or just a few years later on PlayStation.

I played the game for the first time on webtv
