I spent 10 bucks on my smash amiibo, and it's been useful for Smash, both hyrule warriors, loz botw (and the stuff it unlocked there would probably have equated to $4.50 total) and its no doubt going to have uses in future games.
The amiibo stuff in botw was no doubt added last, and they just couldn't have worked in a gameplay-wise or lore breaking way to put them in the base game.

This. Before I got my PC a couple years ago my Wii was my emulator box. Since I have a Switch now, I plan on modding my Wii U as soon as possible. Use those slick Smash 4 costumes, and homebrew on my Wii U. I already have an SD card with literally every single NES, SNES. Genesis, Game Boy/Color/GBA, and even the fucking turbografx just ready to go one room over in my bedroom that I could bring out from the Wii and jam into my Wii U.

The only thing I would be missing out on is that in my bedroom I have a shitty old dying TV that makes my retro games look like the real deal, but that's a fucking autism argument on it's own I'm not willing to get into.
