Apart from the Napoleon mech segment, 4 was much more horror focused than 5. FFS 5 had matrix wesker dodging bullets and a final fight in an active volcano. Also the forced partner thing killed any scare factor it had. On top of that, if you didn't have anyone to play it with you were bogged down with a horrible AI partner that got herself killed every 2 seconds. It got a bit stupid but I will say that despite the shitty AI partner it was still at least playable for the most part. 6 was just shit. Complete shit. Like I had to turn it off because it was such shit.

Playing this as first vr game proved to me that vr is the next thing and only vr nothing else.
That gamers arent willing to pay for it right now is unfortunate because they will miss out on something that is the next jump and a bigger jump than anything else that ever happened in the video game industry. Felt barebones but it's a very promosing soft reboot for the franchise.

A great example of modernizing a franchise in a good way. It invokes the spirit of RE while also being something new.

Worst game in the franchise, I'm surprised something finally stole the title from Code Veronica.

It does a few interesting things, it has its heart in the right place and I want to at least like it, but the end result is pretty shallow and lukewarm.
I keep wondering how much is a failure in execution and how much might be intrinsic to some design choices (first-person view for one).

Actually i was dissapointed after getting on release.
Got it with a friend and we were hyped as fuck since we are fans of the saga.
When i finished it felt empty, unfinished and unpolished, with a lot of plot holes and random bullshit threw to the player.
After saying that to my friend he called me hater, but he never spend more than 10h playing it.
After some observation i pointed out that they appealed to nostalgia all they could, inventory management for instance, puzzles, feared enemies and not so shooter like, but more survival.
But all it´s pointless since you aren´t in need of thinking in any puzzle, since they are poorly designed and piss easy. Inventory management is just a joke and only a problem if you carry +3 weapons (pointless btw).
The survival aspect is fun the first 3h of the game, then it turns out in another shooter but with more atmosphere than the others.
I hope they don´t continue with this meme, to be honest.

My only problems with it were that the enemy variety sucked, and that the DLC release dates have extended far beyond their anticipated windows.

Definitely a much needed refreshment of the franchise though.

I have only played 4 and 7 and I thoroughly enjoyed both

Nah 7 was pretty mediocre overall.

All the areas are so small that they are pretty much linear.
Shit enemy variety
Shit weapon balancing - you get way too many weapons for the little amount of enemies in the game
Shit item balancing - about 70% of the shit you pick up is just there to clog the inventory. Seriously when your inventory is full look at it and you'll see how much shit is just that, useless shit, that shouldn't have a space dedicated to it and barely has a function on top of that.
Shit bosses - Margaret was the best boss the game had to offer, and she was mediocre.
Shit story - okay I know RE isn't known for it's story or plot, but the older games it never really focused on it. The story was an excuse to play the game, same as horror B-movies have the story as an excuse for the killer to kill people in entertaining ways. Sadly RE 7 has the most story focus of any RE game, and it's shit. Even more so you can't even skip it. Like you can tell it was written by a western writer (a shit one) just from how much it's forced in your face.
"Redfields" design. Hell the realistic artstyle itself was pretty shit, for the characters.

RE7 isn't all shit though

Jack was fun as fuck, and I found Lucas to be pretty interesting.
The random notes you find scattered around are the most interesting notes since the classic RE's.
I liked the gunplay - yes as I mentioned above, the balancing is shit, and so is the enemy variety. But I still enjoyed shooting the enemies.
The atmosphere and sound design was pretty fantastic overall, though I'm a little disappointed that know actual background tracks were used like in the classic RE's.

So yeah, it was pretty damn mediocre.

Play remake instead, you RE5 action shitters.

That's debatable. I don't count cheesy stories bad writing, if that's what the story itself is going for. If you count cheesy writing bad, than nearly any game story is better than older RE's and being better than them isn't much of an achievement. To top it off, I found RE7's story boring as fuck, hamfisted in areas, and Evelyn it the fucking worst thing in ANY RE game. Jack and Lucas were the best written characters but sadly due to how it's set out, they only in the game a combined total of 40% of your playtime. RE7 is just incredibly hit and miss.

Gameplay wise yeah both are fine, Revelations 2 has coop and stealth mechanics but it works nicely and each coop character has specific abilities like in Zero.

Other positives:
+ great sound design reminiscent of classic RE
+ great environmental visuals and lighting
+ reintroduction of save rooms and music
+ impressive transition to first person

Negatives:
- Could use a more varied enemy design/didn't capitalize on the fact that it took place in the bayou
- Rushed and far too actiony after the ship
- Choosing Zoe/Mia has no consequence on the overall story

I still really like the game though. Look forward to the future of the series.

So much better than 5 and 6 in my opinion. It's a step in the right direction but it needs to be more open next time.
