That doesn't mean they don't sell well enough or they're less of a success. Different games, genres, themes have different economic expectations, so to judge them only by the revenue alone is inacurate.

Put Deadpool as an example. It made 700 million in box office iirc, and was considered financially a huge success without doubts. But if you compare it with Avatar, which made almost 3 billion, of course it will look like shit.

My point is, that in the end, the MC genre shouldn't matter to anyone, because in the end, it's not that important. If developers want to make a game with females characters or males it's not relevant, as long as the game is cool and well made, it will succed.
