When I drop on Military or school, I'll check maybe 3-4 rooms. If I find a decent weapon, I'll stick around and try to kill some people, if not, I fuck off and try to find a more secluded spot where I can maybe find something. Half the fun is going from a poor situation to victory or top 10.
