Emulation and free reproduction of all discontinued products should be legal. It's only patent law that keeps perfectly good content from being freely distributed ala public libraries.

That said, new products still sold on the market should not be emulated because they hurt the teams that develop the product.

It's not the optimization per se, but the difficulty in emulating the processors on an entirely different architecture. PowerPC ( Gamecube ) is much simpler than the Emotion Engine bullshit hacked together stuff that was the PS2 processor.

The actual performance of the game moment-to-moment will be hardware-accurate. Everything an SNES does to play a video game can be perfectly replicated with a cycle-accurate emulator.

You're right but it's really the only means of doing so. Most companies, aside from Nintendo and such, aren't really interested in archiving their past works as it isn't particularly profitable. Archival is essential to the future of any creative medium though, for reasons beyond monetary gain.

It was the only way I could play all those games when I was younger. If it wasn't for emulation I wouldn't have been able to play any SNES games, and my parents only bought me one Genesis game and then called it enough.

On the technical side they basically emulate perfectly with the newer versions of Dolphin but yeah if you don't have a bluetooth adapter and a wii remote lying around then you're going to have a hard time with it without motion controls but at least it isn't unplayable like Skyward Sword since Dolphin can't even emulate the wii remote plus.

It's pretty great. It lets you play console games on a handheld, handheld games on a big screen, have all of your favorite games in one place, and prevents collectors and resellers from acting like gatekeepers. Better graphics and controller options.

5th gen and up aren't perfect, but it's always getting better.

Completely justified since it's been a thing for years and now nintendo is hellbent on getting rid of snes and gba games, yet refusing to port them over to their newer hardware, making it impossible to play some amazing games.

PCSX2's FXAA is great by the way. Obviously there are negative reactions to the term, but there's not a single reason not to use it. Even at absurd resolutions, the FXAA will clear up jaggies. The MSAA is bad though, for various reasons.

Having just played both, they don't really have any noticable problems.
The only issue is with NMH1, where if you don't have a wiimote then you'll have to use a specific keyboard layout to make the deathblows consistent enough to finish it.
