I literally played it for the first time ever last year, and it was superb IMO.

The platforming's frustrating in the final stretch, and the combat's a bit clunky, but it's still one of my favorites.
Memorable level design, atmospheric exploration, fun characters, etc. etc.

I'm interested, but I think tempered expectations are for the best.
I imagine that it's hard to replicate the charm and style of a nostalgic decade old platformer while still trying to do something new with it.
I still love it, has a lot of charm and attention to detail that shows the effort put in, despite its flaws. I'll probably play 2 but I doubt it will retain any of that. Currently going for my first 100% run of the game, fuck figments.
