UYA dropped the ship and racing minigames because adding them to the game required someone to work on them full time, rather than have them add something to the core gameplay. And I personally think it has the best ratchet gameplay of them all, strafe lock is the way ratchet was meant to be played.
I'm not really going to defend the alternate paths, because, while it's a subjective thing, I don't like how most of them involved using some gadget rather than actually playing the game.
He also played on the HD collection which had some major graphical flaws compared to the originals, so I don't think he was in the position to say what looked bad.
I agree about the HUD, though. It is far too orange.
