At the end of 1, Olimar realizes that even though he was providing the Pikmin a mutual relationship, he had lost lives in getting his parts back together. Once he helft the planet, he felt sad that he would be no longer around to help the Pikmin survive, and assumed he set them up for failure and the decline of their species, even though that wasn't the case, and regretted not showing them enough gratitude for their sacrifice.
