It's much better. Cuts out a lot of retarded shit. Unfortunately there is some scenes and cool shots I wish were still in (the dwarf discovering the Arkenstone and the battle at Moria flashbacks are a few) and the edits couldn't fix everything.

I just gave them a watch a couple days ago on an off day.

I fucking love the movies, they're really well done but be prepared because they are so long. I have trouble recomending the movies to friends with short attention spans because they usually just don't give a shit enough to watch 4 hours per movie or fall asleep. If you like fantasy and big, epic battles this is mandatory viewing.
Also in the rerelease the soundtrack is interwoven beautifully with the film and really adds some layers to the quality of the film.
