But it does, the quality of the games mechanics progressed with every release.
The jump from 1 to 2 is huge, and the jump from 2 to 3 is noticeable too. Every game has mechanically been an improvement, I haven't played 6 so I can't comment on that though.

1. In Half-Life 2, for no reason at all, the flashlight power meter and the sprint meter are the same thing, until Valve finally fixed it for Episode 2. They could retroactively fix it for the base game and Ep1, but they don't.

Where did I say that? Y1 is no harder than Kiwami. The only reason Y1 feels "hard" is because of broken lock-on, which can be negated by using 3 square combo with finishing blow instead of 4 square combo, and several goons in boss fight, which is also in Kiwami, but actually more aggressive. Not to mention bosses in Kiwami has more health and there's a hard mode unlocked from the start.
