WoW suffered from the fact that to keep WoW healthy and satiate its playerbase. They needed to regularly come up with new content to apply to it. No matter whether or not they actually managed to think of anything good.

And World of Warcraft was 13 years ago by now. As soon as WoW stops doing that, you can have the Night Elves split off and all that other stuff. Which is really for the best, since these alliances don't really make sense as a permanent fixture.
